Concerning the important discussion on the 'learn Chinese' thread: It strikes me that both the OP and the resondent wanting to exchange language lessons/practice have been very clear, that no one has been deceived, and that deception was never intended.

I am not in charge of anything and don't object to the ridiculous things that some of you are saying, and in fact I'd hate to see anyone get banned from GoKM for burying simple inquiries at the bottom of piles of self-defensive or intentionally annoying egotistical crap and thereby driving more intelligent users of the forum who are interested in real discussion or real information away from it. Most of the time I find it hard to understand how any of this might really be 'entertaining' - Tonyoad posted a message saying he was into the forums for simple entertainment - but if that's what you want, why not refer your nonsense here? I'll even play once in awhile (as I find myself doing now), but please don't destroy the usefulness of the forums everywhere for everyone else, or get yourselves thrown out into reality somewhere.

Would be nice if labor and capital were put to use creating something that actually helped somebody who badly needed something.

53 years of this crap - my respect for the people of the country, who have managed to hang on through it all.
I'll be glad when all these guys are fossils, and I'm sure the Burmese/Myanmarese who are alive then will too. But it won't happen automatically.

Not quite what you'd call a jumping place, but not bad at all for rather standard US-type meals, not overly expensive, and with a really good salad bar that's cheap, or free with most dinner dishes after 5:30PM. You can get a bottle of beer or even wine if you really want to, but I've never seen anybody do it - maybe that's just to take out. Chinese Christian run, and they hire people with physical disadvantages, who are pleasant and helpful. Frequented by foreign (mostly North American) Christians and Chinese Christians - was started by a Canadian couple associated with Bless China (previously, Project Grace), who are no longer here, but no religious pressure or any of that. Steaks are nothing special, and I avoid the Korean dishes, which I've had a few times but which did not impress me.

As a shop and bakery, it's very good bread at reasonable prices, of various kinds (Y18 for a good multigrain loaf that certainly weighs well over a pound. Other stuff too, like granola and oatmeal that is local, as well as imported things, including American cornflakes and so forth, which some people seem to require.

Large portions, seriously so with the pizza, which is Brooklyn/American style, I guess. Convivial, conversational, good place to drink with good folks on both sides of the bar, especially after about 9PM.

Really good pizza and steaks. The wine machine fuddles me when I'm a bit fuddled, & seems unnecessary. Good folks on both sides of the bar.
