Being far from the expat streets around Yunda is probably a good idea for learning Chinese, at least in the beginning - but it all depends on motivation and what you may want to do besides learn Chinese.

I second the rye bread!
@HFCampo 3. And furthermore I'm not sure that having university education is any guarantee of a good marriage.
@Dazzer: I get your point, sort of - there is offensive stuff that should not appear - but I don't quite understand this widespread fear of trolls - is it that hard just to ignore posts that are better ignored? What are they gonna do, pop out from under bridges & eat innocent travelers? Not trying to start an argument here...
But plenty of private language schools can still arrange visas, can't they?

Not quite what you'd call a jumping place, but not bad at all for rather standard US-type meals, not overly expensive, and with a really good salad bar that's cheap, or free with most dinner dishes after 5:30PM. You can get a bottle of beer or even wine if you really want to, but I've never seen anybody do it - maybe that's just to take out. Chinese Christian run, and they hire people with physical disadvantages, who are pleasant and helpful. Frequented by foreign (mostly North American) Christians and Chinese Christians - was started by a Canadian couple associated with Bless China (previously, Project Grace), who are no longer here, but no religious pressure or any of that. Steaks are nothing special, and I avoid the Korean dishes, which I've had a few times but which did not impress me.
As a shop and bakery, it's very good bread at reasonable prices, of various kinds (Y18 for a good multigrain loaf that certainly weighs well over a pound. Other stuff too, like granola and oatmeal that is local, as well as imported things, including American cornflakes and so forth, which some people seem to require.
Large portions, seriously so with the pizza, which is Brooklyn/American style, I guess. Convivial, conversational, good place to drink with good folks on both sides of the bar, especially after about 9PM.
Too bourgeois.
Really good pizza and steaks. The wine machine fuddles me when I'm a bit fuddled, & seems unnecessary. Good folks on both sides of the bar.
Ain't no flies on Salvador's.
Kunming's bike share options: A user guide
Posted by@Peter: hope it's true, as if that's the problem it shouldn't be too hard to deal with. The public bike-rental process is a good idea and I'm sure it can be made to work better.
Would like to see some statistics as to the number of private cars on the road now, in comparison to the number before the bike scheme, although my guess is that this statistic is simply not available.

Posted bySeem to be bugs in this bike process, as well as a certain lack of social conscience, which doesn't entirely surprise me.
Up to 1,000 Dali businesses to close in face of new policy
Posted byGood, ditto, although there may be some validity to the guy's complaint about how it is being done.

Posted byI hope he gets compensation and that it is all publicized to encourage others to do the same if they are convicted on sloppy cop investigations.
