Up on Dali's Cang Shan last spring we saw an odd looking phesant, not the usual ring neck; further up we met a group of birders from Beijing looking for that exact phesant. We stumbled upon it while they were searching..ha
Wattering holes/ springs are the keys to wildlife in dry spring time...
A company in Germany sent me a parcel with expensive electronics in it ...we could trace it up to the customs office in Chendu then it disapeared from tracking.
Lots of calls and days later they said to call EMS or China post because sometimes they pick up the stuff coming out of customs..
WTF??????

After calling all the EMS and China post in Kunming we finaly were able to trace our parcel....what a nightmare!!
We've sent plenty trough EMS without a problem, in China and Canada..
In Canada expropriation of lands for parks has been a black eye in a democratic country. Expropriation resulted in vengance over 30 years from the locals, burning facilities, vandalism and being rude to tourists..
Much better to leave the people in the parks and control some of their activities...besides the people themselves are an atraction..
Paraglide Yunnan will be in Jinggu (north of Puer on the way to Jinghong) most of Febuary and is inviting anyone whom likes warm weather and hospitality to join us..for free!
One activity which does cost is to fly paragliders with a qualified Canadian instructor, tandem or solo, we have nice facilities and equipment for beginner paragliding.
There are also off road dirt bikes to rent or 4wd vehicles to enjoy off the beaten paths..
I will also be exploring new areas to fly near Puer.
Hotels are cheap 50rmb + - ...some rooms have internet.

I wish they had basic energy conservation in all these new buildings..2 cm of insulation would make a remarkable savings in energy. Heating or cooling combined with high humidity levels is a real energy eater.
In the past most endured the damp cold or the humid heat but the new generation would rather spend the cash on comfort while the concrete buildings absorbs the energy by exchanging humidity in the air....humidity from the bathrooms which seep into the concrete..
It's not rocket science..
I agree there has been a lot of effort to clean up the lake, the introduced water hyacinth ( floating plants) are absorbing the surplus of nutrients and then the plants were to be removed out of the lake and disposed on land somewhere...
But..
The opening of the fishing industry is crazy..
Water quality is not safe for agriculture yet they allow commercial fishing?
Which officials allowed this commercial fishing? I understand the need to please the fishermen but this is totally irresponsible for public safety.
When is the government going to be serious on food quality?

On 2 occasions I saw a local guy selling a single fish on the road side at the bottom of Xi Shan, a large 2 to 3 kg yellowish green fish with swollen black spots all over ....it didn't look healthy.
Went the other night, it was very late therefore I cant coment on the food but it did smell very good..
Cozy atmosphere and very friendly host.
Will return again now that it's found!
