Forums > Living in Kunming > Where to purchase/have a qipao made? Quality at both shops was excellent. Cost (to me) was quite reasonable, and about half that of another place.
Of course the price will depend on the style and fabric you choose. Last fall my wife had two dresses made. 2,000 yuan total price. One was 800 and the other 1,200. You would think the full length dress was more expensive than the one to the knee, but it was the other way around because of the material.
At both shops, everything you see in the "showroom" is just to let you see the styles and fabrics. They'll make whatever you want. I even had a tuxedo made there!
Forums > Living in Kunming > Opening a Chinese bank account To withdraw from my Canadian account I prefer China Merchants Bank. The difference is in the max withdrawal size. CMB machines permit 3,000 RMB, while BOC tops at 2,500. The reason I do this is because I pay a fixed per withdrawal fee to my Canadian bank no matter what the amount is.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Where to purchase/have a qipao made? My wife had a few (four) made at two different shops on Beijing Rd, east side, just south of Tudong Rd (just past one street south).
Forums > Living in Kunming > Hong Kong Visa Run URGENT When we got visas in Hong Kong we went to the agency at the Sheraton hotel (expensive). Because my wife is Chinese born, with property in China, her visa was done at the Chinese consulate. Mine was done by the PSB in Shenzhen. I don't understand the why, but mine came back faster.
