Forums > Living in Kunming > Puji 2nd hand market no more

I also saw this. And I have lost track of traders at other markets.

I have decided to change my strategy. If I see a trader I may use, I must get their business card. That way if/when they move I have a chance of finding them at the new location. Even if I don't speak Chinese I can write notes in English on the business card, and then get a Chinese speaker to call them if they have moved.

I have wanted to buy stuff from at least 3 suppliers who have moved in the last year.

It might also be worth checking out a Chinese opthamologist. We have used the biggest brand name 'Red Star' in both Shanghai and Zhengzhou. Professional, fast, top quality products, and cheaper than back home.

I have a difficult prescription, when I needed new specs last year Boots Opticians (big brand) in UK were hard pressed to meet the quality, and were amazed at the craftsmanship and price I had paid.
Perhaps all those short sighted kids with parents worried about long hours of study have driven the market towards high volume of top quality.

It is a reasonable assumption that the contact lens market could be as sophisticated.

We were put in touch with an engineer buy Purapple decor company. I think they saw this as an opportunity to generate some business.
I can't remember the contact details for the engineer. It cost about 3000 but he actually did very little. But if you were buying a used property he may be able to spot major problems. e.g. people love to tear down walls here, some of them can be bearing walls. Now that I would want to know about.

I wish people would go back and read what I actually wrote.
I did not suggest it was a good tactic, at all.

I simply pointed out that in the past, it was taught. As such it is not just a matter of fiction.
Others have also suggested that this was taught.

It may not have entered someones head that I may know from personal experience that it was taught.

Nice try, but this is an open to the public event.

I can well afford, but choose not to pay 368 for a buffet.

Hell! I doubt they even have any cider.
Whoever attends will only be offering cash.

Apparently the food event at the Intercontinental Hotel will be 368RMB, unless you get discount coupons.
I will not be going.
These are stupid rich prices. I am not poor, but not stupid either. I won't be going.

The cultural events are all open to the public.
I can understand why the whiskey night, and cheese and wine events are invitation only. I wouldn't want me in either of those. Trough, gurgle, burp... LOL

That last comment was a bit unfair. There will be local officials who have to be seen there.

Think of this more as a conference, and trade event, with some public exhibits on the side, and less as an exhibition open to the public.

A reasonable choice of lumber that has improved over time. Fancy hardwoods like walnut, and mahogany are in abundance. There are some plywood and rubber-wood boards available. There are also some kiln dried imported softwoods and merbao available. Some of the lumber is very green, so look for the kiln dried if you need stable timbers.

Echo everything said by others.
Breakfast great and the serve from 8am. Most other places say 9am and they still are not ready.
Sandwiches are cheap 22-32, and really packed full of filling. We got some sandwiches for a day out, the only mistake I made was ordering two, as this was too much. These are seriously good sangars, and they are wrapped in alu foil.

In fairness to Metro, they are a wholesalers, and not really a supermarket. Hence the need for a card, which can be got around.

They have improved in the year I have been away. They now carry a more consistent range of imported foodstuffs and they also seem to have sorted out the mported milk supply.

They have a wider range of electrical appliances now, there is a coice of more than one toast. There is also a better range of seasonal non foods, like clothes, shoes, garden furniture and camping gear.
