Why are there so many people on the forums who can't discuss anything without attacking individual posters personally?

Alien I wish I knew. This forum is full of them.

I generally try to contribute constructive comments to the forum, but today I had just about had enough of a particular individual and their general offensiveness. I don't get involved in the politics here, but today a certain individual had to be shown by a few of us what an idiot they actually are.

So I thought the trolls could all troll each other here, rather than in the other threads where others are actually trying to have adult conversations, without all the stupid politics that is what the GK forums have seem to become.

Perhaps the moderators could blow the whistle a little earlier on some of these clearly offensive comments, although I appreciate they can't be monitoring forums all hours of the day.
Forums also serve the purpose of allowing people to vent their frustrations to an extent, but some of the name calling that's been going on lately benefits no-one.

Redjon is right: don't bother to respond to idiotic comments or personal attacks, and don't make them.
And don't ban anybody from the forums except that spam advertising love magic that keeps showing up.

I, this time anyway, agree with Alien. We all have opinions and I respect the right of anyone to have an opinion no matter how much I might disagree with it. Banning someone is extreme and misses the whole point of having discussions.

Ad hominem attacks are weakness and just signal the attacker cannot debate the issue.

A poster who did not like at least one of my posts soon posted this thoughtful, intelligent, clear, and on topic demonstration of wit:
