If you contacted recently then OK, wait for a bit. If you contacted a while ago, then I would suggest that there is either a problem with your CV, your status, or some other issue you have as yet not mentioned to us.

There have been loads of job ads in the last few weeks. Try going back a and applying for all suitable jobs advertised in the last month.

Forums > Travel Yunnan > Using My Chinese Card Abroad

I tried using my China Merchants Bank union pay card in Thailand 2 years ago. No way.
Construction bank may not charge ATM fees, but the probably mop this up in the exchange rate. Be careful there is often a double exchange rate as RMB is not a tradable currency. In most cases money you draw outside China will first be converted to USDollars, and then USDollars to RMB. Remember that yo won't get the prices quoted on finance pages either. There are buying and selling rates.

I fully understand the desire and need for Chinese lessons at the early stages.

Language exchange is OK for listening and speaking, but not for reading or writing. I also think you need to have reached/completed beginner level before you can really tackle a language exchange. Otherwise one person may be sending a message and the other person is receiving unintelligible noise.

Most language exchangers are students, and so they can empathise with learners. However, they are not teachers. They have little concept of the standard vocab. and grammar learned and practised at each level, this vocab. and gram. is pretty much prescribed by Beijing and common to most books.
My Chinese wife gave up trying to teach me. She has a large vocab. that she uses. If I said something incorrectly, or did not use exact vocab., she would try to give the equivalent of an advanced lesson. The result was that I just became confused and demoralised.
A language exchanger may not be someone who over corrects, like my wife. They may be someone who does not correct at all, and merely nods when you have given a garbled message, to avoid face issues.

One might also want to learn Putonghua and not Kunminghua, and if you have a view to formal study you may not wish to learn something you will need to unlearn later.

And then there is the egg farmer, with the run off from the chicken slurry polluting the north shore. The smell of chicken slurry was very noticeable some days.
Perhaps the authorities should look at local serial polluters before going on the rampage about the occasional bad tourist.

I can only assume you have never been involved in any Agenda 21 groups. I have, and activities were very much bottom up and distinctly local (county level with specific regard to . Committees were formed from local people, most of whom were concerned citizens. A Local Agenda 21 document was produced formulated and produced by the group. Members of the local council were present, as volunteers, to look at feasibility, and to make sure that the document was published. I the document out LA 21 group produced, there were about 200 advisers in the group, from industry, academia, local NGOs and concerned citizens (including some conspiracy theorists, tree huggers and doubters) . All lived locally, all were stakeholders.

You may be surprised, but there were no representatives of the UN or big government present at the meetings.

A reasonable choice of lumber that has improved over time. Fancy hardwoods like walnut, and mahogany are in abundance. There are some plywood and rubber-wood boards available. There are also some kiln dried imported softwoods and merbao available. Some of the lumber is very green, so look for the kiln dried if you need stable timbers.

Echo everything said by others.
Breakfast great and the serve from 8am. Most other places say 9am and they still are not ready.
Sandwiches are cheap 22-32, and really packed full of filling. We got some sandwiches for a day out, the only mistake I made was ordering two, as this was too much. These are seriously good sangars, and they are wrapped in alu foil.

In fairness to Metro, they are a wholesalers, and not really a supermarket. Hence the need for a card, which can be got around.

They have improved in the year I have been away. They now carry a more consistent range of imported foodstuffs and they also seem to have sorted out the mported milk supply.

They have a wider range of electrical appliances now, there is a coice of more than one toast. There is also a better range of seasonal non foods, like clothes, shoes, garden furniture and camping gear.
