@Ocean. They will post them to you for free to Kunming? Very nice of them. Must be UK.

Don't know any, but Chinese people love food fairs, so a contest has got to be a winner :)
@Harri. You don't need JE vac or any other vaccine for your itinerary in Yunnan. Hep vac is at your discretion depending how long your total China time is. You should get your DPT vac updated, but that's recommended for any type of travel.
@Xiefei. Kunming and Falgers will give you laduzi, but not seven cups of good coffee. You may experience heart palpitations or schizophrenia possibly, but not laduzi.
@Alien. Hani gets my vote too.
The HiTech zone has a couple of semi shopping areas. The best one is where the Walmart is (there is a gym), but you'll still be quite far from most expat bars cafes etc.
It's totally safe and boring everywhere there and quite pleasant for walks or cycling as long as you avoid dump truck streets or time.
Plenty of nice new complexes. Given your monthly allowance, you can rent anything anywhere (no pool; they're just rare).
If you live in the other areas and commute, then car is the best option unless you're a cyclist. Buses there are less common and crowded and take a while, and no subway.

Never gotten sick once at Sals. Their food is TexMex, so yeah, not authentic Mexican food, but pretty authentic as TexMex goes. Burrito wrap has improved a lot. Like the draft beer option now.
If you haven't had dairy products in a while, and do eat here, best forgo the sour cream. Nothing wrong with it, in fact it's the best sour cream in Kunming, but if you've eaten Chinese for month or months with no dairy intake, your system will react to sour cream or probably any liquid dairy product not so well. Maybe that's what happened with nailer and tallamerican.
Update:
It's now 5 working days for regular processing. So I submitted my application a bit before 5pm on a Friday and was told to pick it up next week Friday after 5pm.
Cost is now 400rmb for a single 30 day entry. Or that was what I was charged anyways. There are no posted prices and its cash only with no receipt except for your passport pickup. That's like $65 USD.
You can pay another 150rmb for 2 day or 100rmb for 3 day processing. For 400rmb, they should process it in three days like they used to before, but now you'd pay 500rmb. The office is still like deserted most of the time, so why does it take longer now and cost extra. If you opted for 2 day, thats like $90 usd. All other neighboring countries charge like $25usd.
The rest of and cope review is still good for hours and location.
Far out, less people. Big enough to get lost in. Pretty and quiet near dusk. 20yuan entrance fee.
Like everyone else says, best Indian food in Kunming. They have lunch plates and dinner plates. Show up before 1pm for lunch.
They are on the 4th floor of the half empty shopping mall. Best way is too take the elevator past the KFC around the corner from Starbucks.
Most individual dishes can feed only two hungry guys, so order more if you are starving. Naan order can take care of one only.
Five stars for the food. Go with Yereth's recommendations, plus any vegetable the waitress says is fresh.
Beware that Xue Fu lu is one way, so many taxis have to take a roundabout way to get here.
Around Town: Kunming's secluded Lianhua Temple
Posted byI think that's the official rule. No one is allowed in fire risk areas until the fire season is over. Mountain bikers get turned back ag lots of checkpoints throughout kunming during fire season. However, it's only enforced if seen, so just go into woods once out of sight of guards and romp around in a deeper or even more secluded part. Also, as far as I know, no fines if your caught and politely just plead ignorance and make your way out of forested areas.
Kunming police begin drive to register e-bikes citywide
Posted byVery pro active. I hope this works out long term. I was surprised to read compensation insurance is included in the one time 150 fee.
Kunming to put 45,000 public use bikes on roads
Posted byI think ofo is backed by a multi billion dollar company called didi. Though that might not stop them from closing down and rebranding a subsidiary, much like the two hair salons I bought memberships to.
Agree ofo bikes are the cheapest. The breaking of locks explains why I see kids on them in the outskirts km villages.
None of the three are comfortable rides for any length other than for kids or women.
Kunming to put 45,000 public use bikes on roads
Posted byMajority of this bike share seems positive so far. Seen plenty on way to haigeng park and some aunties using them for shopping, a random student on one now and then. Very sad a some punks tossed two into the river. That pile in the Guardian article is a commuter imbalance. Some city public bike programs in various western cities experience it too. There is a pile up of personal owned bikes at a train station in Copenhagen I think.
