crazy stuff. turns out many of Yunnan's prisons double as chemical factories. i guess they never have problems finding new staff for dangerous work.
Yup, it's that time of year again. Green Kunming with Salvador's organics now has avocados for sale. We are selling them at 10 kuai each. Some are ripe and ready to eat and some need a few days in a paper bag to get there. Be sure you choose the kind you want. If you wish to accelerate ripening, add a browning banana into the paper bags with the avocados. Salvador's is also now running guacamole specials with more to come.
Any good avocado recipes out there? Please post them here.
Yes, Green Kunming is alive and kicking. We now run it out of Salvador's Coffee House. You can see our product list at www.salvadors.cn. All of our products are available in Salvador's every day except for the 5-kilo vegetable assortment. That must be ordered for Tuesday and Friday pick-up at least 2 days ahead of time. So for Tuesday pick-up, order by Sunday night. And for Friday pick-up, order by Wednesday night. We've got avocados now, so get 'em while you can.
We are in the process of getting our non-profit registered in China. It is already registered in the States. We are mostly working with agriculture and health care so could really use some help putting together an education program. You can see our website at www.villageprogress.com. It is a website under construction, as is our development program, but it can at least give you a bit of an idea where we're headed. You can email me at colin_flahive (at) hotmail. com. I'm leaving this review for one of my staff. She just return from Dali and fell in love with this little restaurant in Dali. Very nice owners cooking up delicious and healthy Chinese cuisine with an open kitchen and local "organic" ingredients. I'll have to try it out myself next time.
If you're looking for a slightly higher end place serving local foods in a nice outdoor atmosphere, you'll dig this place
I'm disappointed in myself for even considering giving this place another chance. I wanted to give my 4-month old a chance to see some live animals and I was sure that there was no way that the Kunming Zoo was as bad as it was 15 years ago. Somehow it was worse. It's disgraceful that with all of the changes that this city has undergone in the last two decades that this zoo still lacks any sense of decency or morality.
At nailer and tallamerican, I'm sorry to hear about your recent experiences. We wash everything with purified water and make all of our food fresh daily from whole ingredients in order to avoid any problems. We will review our procedures to assure that we continue to provide the safest and healthiest menu options possible. I hope you'll give us another try and I'd be happy to buy you a coffee if you are around any morning.
@GoKunming, it would be nice if there was a zero star option for reviews so that business owners can contribute without having to rate ourselves. I kind of feel like a d-bag giving myself stars 1-5. For some reason I settled on 4 as the least douchey ;).
the chorizo alone is worth 5 stars

Li Ping fundraisers
Posted byDashan Yunnan Spring Water has donated 7000 bottles of water for Liping's kidney treatments. The water is now available by donation at Salvador's, Slice of Heaven and O'Reilly's. This promotion has already raised an additional 13,000 RMB to help pay for Liping's medical costs.

Posted byAwesome night. Thanks to John and Cass for their hard work. Thanks to all the ticket sellers and to Moondog for getting those tickets out. Thanks to the amazing musicians we are lucky to have in this town. And thanks to all of you who been so supportive of Liping. The world needs more of this.

Posted byThe outpouring of support continues to amaze. So far we have raised more than 70,000 rmb, and the donations continue. Thank you to everyone who has helped out, and a special thanks to Barbara for organizing tonight's fundraising quiz. It was both very successful and good fun, plus she made some amazing pavlova. Liping has started dialysis and has returned from what was really the edge of death to having a chance at a relatively normal life. And that would not have been possible without the generosity of both the local and international communities. On behalf of Liping and the rest of the Salvador's crew, thank you so much for your support.
