For the time being, you must travel with your old passport and your new passport. Technically, the visa expires with your passport, so technically, you must re-apply for a new 10 year visa.

The PSB/Immigration Control in China MAY let you slide once or twice, but it's at their discretion. You MUST apply for a new visa in your new passport ASAP.

I had to have both passports with me when there was this overlap but it was only for a month. I'm surprised they gave you a visa past your passport exp date. How much time is left on your visa?

thanks for the info. I have a vietnam visa, too—one that set me back 1000 RMB. To get one put in my new passport will cost 200 RMB, as of this posting.

Where did you get a Vietnam visa for 200rmb? Or is that some kind of tranfer fee for a valid Vietnam visa from old to new passport? Or maybe they charge your country a lot less, so what nationality is your passport?

If purchasing a one year Vietnamese tourist visa just set you back 1,000 RMB...and you need to transfer it into a NEW passport, you can do it at the Vietnam Consulate for just 200 RMB. What a deal.

Ok, so just a transfer fee. Sorry to hear they charged you 1k for a tourist visa. Hopefully it's for a long duration and multiple entry. The single entry 30 day tourist is now 360rmb or 380rmb, can't remember which but no longer 400rmb anyways, and back to three biz day processing, but strangely they were rejecting all Chinese passports a few months ago. Talking about Vietnam consulate, so as not to confuse anyone.
