Mangiamo italian restaurant on the top of nan ya feng qing yuan is pretty darn solid. Lots of home grown veggies and handmade pasta and olive oil etc. Great date place.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Think about reconsidering windows phone OS!

I own a MacBook pro, an Android tablet, a windows 7 tower and a Lumia windows 8.1 phone and I think windows phone is just awesome. Sure there is the 'app gap' thing that is the major resistance to Windows phone, but I couldn't care less and I don't think it is actually a valid problem, just 'news propaganda'. My phone works faster and better than it did when I bought it over a year ago and every single app that I want/need is available no prob. Ok some of my android/iPhone friends have a couple more features than I do in wechat and stuff but I don't ever have to use iTunes to do anything (thank goodness) and my phone seems to be better and better with time (unlike many samsung or other android phones) Plus we windows phone users have the big windows 10 OS update to look forward to soon which will totally revamp the OS and probably help close the 'app gap'. Anyway, just felt so happy with my phone just now and thought I should share. Don't believe the hype! Windows phone is great!

Forums > Living in Kunming > Oven with plug too thick for regular socket

Yeah you can switch the plug head for a 10a one or use some kind of converter head but if the wattage is consistently really high there is a risk of melting the plug head/socket/breaker switch so finding a 16a socket is the best solution for safety. If you have a breaker box with individual removable plugs then you could also remove one of them and switch it for a 16a one.

Can't use a debit card, for Zuche it had to be a credit card. Not sure if it is still possible for foreigners to get one as it seems like things have changed a little but I got mine from Bank of Communication a few years ago. Definitely worth a try.

In my experience the main problem I ran into besides having the driver's license for renting a car from someone like zuche was needing a Chinese credit card for the deposit. There didn't seem to be a way around it. Eventually I got a credit card and it was fine.

Love this place. One of the best hidden gems in Kunming. The food is all clean and locally sourced and made with creativity and care. The building is interesting and if weather is good sitting outside is awesome. The homemade tofu skin is to die for as well as most of the other dishes on the menu. They also have a lot of very interesting seasonal specials that keep things interesting. Word on the street is that they aren't doing super well these days though. I hope this old favorite gets a new wave of love!

I love this place! I found it on Baidu maps last October and have been going quite regularly since then and have seen marked improvement in my archery skill. It's so nice to have a new cool thing like this to do in Kunming, and so conveniently located! (For me anyway) It is worth noting that in order to practice there you will need to take a class with the owner to get you familiar with the gear, technique and safety and that this instruction is only available in Chinese. Without this initial class he won't let you practice there unless you can somehow prove that you are already a skilled archer so you'll want to go with a friend that speaks good Chinese if you aren't fluent. 50 kuai an hour for non-members, 30 kuai for members. Membership requires putting some money in an account there, think it's around 200 kuai. The initial class is included in the hourly rate. There are an assortment of different difficulty levels of bows so beginners, kids, and people with lower strength levels can get in on the fun too. Great place for a date! Rule #1 Never, ever dry-fire a bow without an arrow in it!

Nice place, a little hard to find the first time but just give a call and they'll help you find it. Really enjoy the quiet locale and the pizza is really good. Great job!
