Forums > Living in Kunming > S-2 visas are over

Go ahead and laugh, @AlPage48, but being deported for a visa overstay has its perks: the police book your flight to whichever city you choose, handle your luggage & transport to your exiting city, and pick up the tab for everything.. A very friendly experience..

The only drawback is not being able to return for 3 years; a nice break.

Good luck !

Forums > Living in Kunming > 3 day negative covid test for air travel

I paid 120 under a tent somewhere; same day result, in Chinese..
Thing about it was, from KM to Guangzhou to Los Angeles to Istanbul, not once was I asked to show test results or medical documents..
Not until entering the EU zone after Istanbul was it checked..
This was in April..

@ lemon lover
Sure, that is what is wild, the on-going mutations, and when will it end?

They can only control the spread through strict travel control..

The lack of interest I witnessed was just my recent experience, including outbound China..

Good to see Canada responding in a practical manner.. I don't know what to say about the Americans.. Given the potent-cannabis nature of LA's air, maybe they don't know either?

China will be stricter for incoming & internal travel, but a quarantine for negative-testers seems to be over-the-top.. The temperature-gun is hardly a verified health-check, compared with test results..

When I was waved through both American & Turkish passport control, I then showed them my testing documents, and asked why nobody was checking?

No response ..

I suppose that you will have to find out personally how Canada handles it..
Neither KM or Guangzhou checked anything.. America did not know that I was in transit; I was in L.A. 4 days re-booking a cancelled flight and being re-tested after the 3-day lapse.. Finally got them out of my way..
Turkey, also being hard-hit, didn't check, even when issuing a visa..
The hype was simply not matching the reality..

Off topic: I was fortunate to have visited the cemetery of Rachel's namesake; Ernest "Papa" Hemingway, at Ketchum Idaho. Far off the beaten track; a winter ski resort area, it was worth the detour, for those with a literary inclination..

He lies alongside wife Mary, with a slender evergreen at the head of both graves, which were simple slabs of dark granite; about 8 feet (2 & 1/2 M) long.. Visitors had left little trinkets, coins, etc, at the foot of the graves; otherwise, no magic-markings or signs of desecration in this quiet and desolate location.. Other Hemingway graves were not far away, but whose names I don't remember.

And when in doubt, recycle anyway. Even if the plastic is unfit for re-use, it is generally incinerated in environmentally approved facilities, with proper filtration.

Burnt unfiltered plastic releases toxic levels of p.c.b's.

It is regrettable that bio-degradable plastic has yet to gain traction on an industrial basis. It was developed around 5 years ago, in the US, as I recall.
Many people simply don't grasp the theory of recycling; never have and never will.

My experience indicates that southern Europe is as guilty of plastic pollution as the Asian nations; there are simply many more people in Asia.
