LAND OF JADE, A journey from India through northern Burma to China, is definitely not a Hedin book. He went there to investigate the different insurgent groups in the area and that is what he did. That is what he writes about and his actual trip of thousands of Km on foot with his wife and just born baby is just there to illustrate how he did it. It formed him to be the most knowledgeable journalist when it comes to Burma and insurgency. He made the trip in 1985 so it is a bit dated but still a valuable historic document.
I have the book here but are reluctant to hand it out because they become rare and expensive but if you are really interested then sent me a PM.

No problem eating it raw. It is however very salty and thus can not be compared with Italian proscuito. Drink plenty of water or beer with it (Nice snack with beer). Keep the salt issue in mind because you easily overdose yourself with it.
Cooking helps to leach some of the salt out and therefore this is recommended. Best is to cook thin slices in plenty of water and throw away the water because it will contain lots of salt. When preparing dishes with it don't add any salt or soya sauce.

The times have changed.
The eastward run was as follows:
8861: Kunming Bei to Wangjiaying:
7:31 to 8:39
8862: Wangjiaying to Kunming Bei:
9:24 to 10:34
8839: Kunming Bei to Wangjiaying:
16:50 to 19:35
8870: Wangjiaying to Kunming Bei:
18:28 to 19:35

Shizui station has been closed. I do not know if the westward run still goes and till where.

The passinger service is about to be closed completely but on the otherhand the Narrow Gauge Railway museum is renewed and was suposed to be opened in January. I dont know if this really happened. Will check it out some day.

Well maybe the reason why they are still in business is that they guard their books well.
And do you expect a pizza restaurant to speak Italian? Or the staff of the French Café to speak French as well?
In a country in which bookstores are state-shop dominated and the book branch is swallowed whole by internet shops, this is a brave attempt and should deserve some respect.
