Forums > Living in Kunming > Water randomly shutting off in apartment?

My apartment building on Xuefu Lu has messed up pipes due to the freezing weather. The kitchen sink trickles a minuscule amount of water, leaving only the cold bathroom faucet available for use. The shower isn't working now either.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Good stuff that makes Yunnan (China) such an amazing place to live.

There's a lot expats take for granted without realizing it. I've been back in the U.S. the past few weeks and been noticing a lot of things I liked about Kunming that don't exist here. For example, there's nothing going on during the day. No places like Wenhua Xiang where young people hang out (unless you're near a university in which case just college students), because in America all young people are either
a) dedicating 9-10+ hours Monday-Friday working or commuting to work
b) Moping around at home because they're unemployed/underemployed and can't afford to go out.

Whereas in Kunming you've got people of all ages out around Wenhua Xiang cafes during the day or bars at night, and even (what's considered) a poorly paid English teacher can afford these things.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Salvadors Support It

It's great to hear Salvador's has reopened! Running a coffee house/bar with organic food, good employee benefits and a charity is the ultimate American pipe dream. But while most would only imagine such things while baked on their couches, the owners of Salvador's have made that dream a reality. Looking forward to eating there again when I return to Kunming.

I hate almost all website layout overhauls at first, so I give myself time to adjust. But the new GoKunming layout has not grown on me. There's too much scrolling involved when using a laptop. It's difficult to find the search bar because most pages don't contain it. Overall, the compact, functional layout we had before was quite nice and didn't need to be changed.

"Should only countries with perfect human right records be allowed to discuss other countries human rights situation?"

No, but only countries that look like they're trying. U.S. fails in that regard. Other countries, e.g. Switzerland and Denmark have the requisite integrity to engage in dialogue.

New menu, prices of many of my favorite dishes increased 25%+. Salvador's used to unambiguously be the best value for western food in town, now while still an excellent place, I'll be eating there somewhat less due to the price increases.

Very delicious, though a bit pricey (perhaps 45-60 per person depending on how much meat you want). Considering it's all top-notch organic ingredients, I still think it's a 5 stars in value.

Yes, I remember this place from a trip a few months ago, tried going 3 times, closed every time.

I'm reviewing the pizzas which are the only items on the menu I've tried. The pizzas are the best in Kunming hands down. I go to this restaurant on Fridays for the half price pizza which is an excellent deal. Food usually arrives slow at this time because the restaurant can get overwhelmed with customers, but the wait is well worth it.

There is one problem with this restaurant, and that is its location. It's not around anything else and there's no convenient bus from the Cui Hu area. So it's 35 minutes of brisk walking each way when I want to visit. Only the weekly pizza pizza deal is enough to motivate me. If Slice of Heaven was on Wenlin Jie I would probably visit 2-3 times a week.

This place has fantastic ratings...but I can't find it! I'm pretty sure I was on the right street but it looked like it was just residential area on the south end of Tianjundian Xiang, no restaurant...there was a gate with a guard and I didn't go any farther than that, maybe I was supposed to? None of the buildings on this street had address numbers that I could see.
