Sal's kitchen stops taking orders at 10:30pm and the coffee house closes at 11pm.
@nailer is being unfairly dismissed: they are certainly fallible. At one point they were well managed and the only game in town, and their outdoor bar had an interesting social vibe. Recently, none of these is the case (was given a bad bill to the tune of ~300% - no managers present and a subsequent complaint resulted in a less than ideal outcome, many more places are now open, and the outdoor bar is closed). Unless you are specifically seeking faux-Americana (often far better examples elsewhere) or two degrees removed faux-Mexicana, there's little reason to go there. How come French Cafe can serve a great sandwich for 24元 but Sals requires 50元 for a pretend-exoticized nibble? Certainly the business will continue, but the hey-dey is clearly gone. Romaniticizing the past aint gonna help. E-waste recycling by shipping (non carbon neutral) junk across the country? Puh-lease. Garbage processing people here recycle anyway! I applaud the ethical stance of one of the managers, but the place has frankly lost its mojo.
Ain't no flies on Salvador's.
@nailer - I'm quite surprised by your comment. I have been going to Salvador's for almost 5 years and never experienced that. The food management and standards are probably one of the highest you will find in Kunming. I have many friends that also go to Salvador's quite regular and they have never experience the problem you mentioned. Are you sure it wasn't the local food or drink you consumed before or after?
I'm very surprised at the last reviewer's comments, because I've lived in Kunming for more than seven years, and have eaten at Salvador's at least once a week for most of my time here, and I'm pretty sure it's one of the few places in town I can count on NOT to make me sick! The food is consistently good-especially the new tacos, and the service is wonderful. The newly expanded space is lovely and open, as well. I'll certainly continue to make it my home away from home!
Kunming's classic hangout for the local desperados and the passing trade that subsidizes happy hour. Unmissable and unsurpassed.
