My family is moving to ChengGong University City next year, and I am curious about how many gas stations are there, as I am looking at getting a motor-scooter, but only if it's not too much of a hassle filling up on gas when we live there. Can anyone share what is currently there for gas stations?
there are 10 that i could find....use baidu next time...takes 15 seconds.
yeah they are everywhere and not hard to find. next to the subway station for eg.
@bluegrass14
The average chinese type motor-scooter does have a 5L gas-tank (approx. 120-150km), so no worries.
Even more important: drivers license, plates, insurance...
Kunming is a city of e-bikes. Living compounds normally have a guarded bike parking with facilities to charge overnight. Much cleaner and easier on the paperwork as well. e-bikes dont require a licence while all petrol engined vehicles do.
No problem finding gas stations, but e-bikes are a better choice - for one thing, they don't use petrol.
Loved my e-bike, but it was a problem if came from work in the far south and had to go to another place in the far north after. No electricity - no fun. ;)
Oh and btw. e-bikes should all require a license / insurance / helmet. No clue what the big G was thinking, but the majority of "riders" just hop on a scooter (which makes easily 50-60km/h or even more) after purchase, without any experience in driving & rules! Red lights anyone? tzzzzzzzzzzzztzzzzzzzzzzz...
Thanks for the input on gas stations in ChengGong. Another question—I know that motorbikes cannot be within the 2nd ring road in Kunming, does that depend on the size of the engine? For example, can a 49cc motor scooter ride anywhere no problem, or is it a complete ban on every 2-wheel motored vehicle?
ebikes okay within the 2nd ring road.
not sure, cos I occasionally see some really small engined, really slow bikes near my home (within the 2 ring road), coughing out grey soot and making a din despite only going about 15mph. Maybe really underpowered ones are allowed, but if I were you, I would just get an ebike: faster, much quieter, and doesn't fill our lungs with soot!
