Lost Shadow is a show of shadows and videos, initiated and created by Gilberte Tsaï, director of the Équipée troupe. After meeting Mr Wang Biao, the shadow theatre player who exercises his art in the ancient town of Langzhong in the province of Szechuan, Tsaï launched this Franco-Chinese co-production using a variety of techniques: shadows, puppets and videos.
The idea is to consider the current spectacular transformation of China through the eyes of the inhabitants of this little town and to look at how they link today’s China with yesterday’s China.
It should form a chronicle of the town’s evolution over time, taking into account its past, its legends, the stories of its residents and the history of six generations of a family of shadow theatre players.
