Friday: Creative Workshop at TC/G Nordica Tonight from 6:00 to 9:00, art space TC/G Nordica within The Loft art compound (创库) will be holding a creative workshop featuring free dance lessons, silk painting, jewelry making and painting for kids. The workshop is free, participants will be charged the cost of materials they use. All ages are welcome. Friday: Polyglot meeting at Green Lake Park The linguaphiles of Polyglot will be holding a meeting at 8:00 pm inside the north gate of Green Lake Park (翠湖公园) where people will exchange their knowledge of Spanish, French, German, Italian, and other languages. Friday: DJs Christian and Kris at The Hump Bar DJs Christian and Kris will be joined by a special guest tonight at The Hump Bar for a night of music and dancing beginning at 10:00. Carlsbergs and gin tonics will be on special for 10 yuan. Saturday: Beekeeper & Horse at Yuansheng Studio Next door to Nordica, Yuansheng Studio will be hosting an evening of music by local experimental band Beekeeper & Horse, who will be joined by Kuafu Mapu. Admission to the 8:30 show is 20 yuan. Saturday: DJ Lao Mang and new Saturday happy hour at Fisherman's Bar After Wednesday's post-football brewfest, the Fisherman's Bar in Kunming Zoulang on Renmin Zhong Lu is launching its Saturday happy hour, with discounts on selected imported beers after 10 pm. DJ Lao Mang, proprietor of the bar and a veteran of Kunming's radio scene, will be playing his eclectic mix of western tunes from 9:30. Saturday: Speakeasy 'closing' party Speakeasy Bar is preparing to close for a few weeks for renovations and will be throwing a 'closing' party on Saturday night featuring DJs Cheng Cheng and Latino. All drinks will be on special for 20% off. Saturday: Violin concert at TC/G Nordica Nordica will host a violin concert at 7:45 pm on Saturday, with a quintet featuring violin, viola, accordion and piano playing old chestnuts like "Fisherman's song" and "Sunshine in the skies of Tashikuguan". Fisherman's Bar is located on the second floor of Kunming Zoulang (map), near the intersection of Renmin Zhong Lu and Qingnian Lu. Christmas Party at Laowo Bar Laowo Bar (老窝吧)will be throwing a Christmas Party featuring four Kunming-based bands. Music starts at 9 pm with the Quebec Redneck Bluegrass Project, Brain Concussion, Rap Republic and Tribal Moons playing before two late-night DJs. Admission to the party is 20 yuan – Laowo Bar is located 20 meters downhill from the main gate of Yunnan Art Institute (云南艺术学院), just off of Kunrui Lu (昆瑞路). Although the city will slow down noticeably, there will be some events and activities taking place during the PRC's 58th birthday celebration. Here's a quick rundown: Tonight: GoKunming Happy Hour at Fisherman's Bar GoKunming is organizing its first happy hour promotion which will take place in a few hours at Fisherman's Bar in the middle of Kunming Zoulang, just west of the intersection of Renmin Zhong Lu and Qingnian Lu. Fisherman's Bar has agreed to put several of its imported beers including Kingfisher, Singha, Coopers Sparkling Ale and more on special for GoKunming readers at only 19 yuan/bottle. Non-beer drinkers can enjoy special 15-yuan gin tonics and vodka tonics. Happy hour runs from 7 to 10 and music will be provided by DJ Kris. Saturday: Art Workshop at TCG Nordica TCG Nordica will be holding an art workshop tomorrow with Swedish artist Eta Hedman and other art teachers at their facility in the Loft aka Chuangku (创库). From 2-5pm all budding artists can try their hands at silkscreen printing, monotype prints, oil painting - all for a negligible material cost. Painting and other creative activities will also be provided for children. Sunday: Camel Bar 12th Birthday Party Kunming drinking institution the Camel Bar will celebrate its 12th birthday on Sunday with vodka and tequila specials and music by DJs Chengcheng and Shuangma. Tuesday: Strange Day and oNEwAY at Shelter Bar Local post-rock bands Strange Day and oNEwAY will play a warmup gig at Shelter Bar before heading to Lijiang to represent Kunming at the Snow Mountain Music Festival later in the week. The 9pm show's 15-yuan ticket includes one alcoholic beverage or soft drink. Shelter Bar is located at Yuantong Dong Lu, under the north end of the zoo. Thursday-Sunday: Lijiang Snow Mountain Music Festival Snow Mountain Music Festival, the granddaddy of China's music festivals, returns to Lijiang this year with some 50 bands taking two stages for three days. Many of China's top rock acts will perform, including Cui Jian, Second-hand Rose, Ruins and more. Tickets to the festival run 80 yuan/day.
