Thanks for the tips guys - still a bit conflicted though! Like the tip about the laptop pillow though. Would definitely always keep my valuables on me, passport under my clothes etc but yeah, mostly just worried about the computer.. had my last MacBook stolen out of my apartment in Hangzhou.
Unfortunately date is not flexible.. needs to be in about two weeks from now.
I'm moving to Chengdu in a couple of weeks and so will be carting along a gigantic suitcase, smaller 'carry-on' size bag plus laptop.. if I were to get a soft-sleeper bunk in the train, would I be able to fit all these things in the carriage without crowding the other occupants, AND would my laptop, passport etc be safe? Am traveling with my partner so at least we can keep an eye out for each other but have heard the sleeper trains are notorious for thieves - even soft sleepers..

Ate here last night - started with an awesome mango lassi and equally good samosas (2 big ones for 15rmb). Got the mushroom mutter and a lamb curry..can't remember which one, had cashews and coconut milk though - delicious!! Lots of meat in it too. My only complaints would be the rice (your basic Chinese steamed rice for 4 rmb - where's the basmati??) and the naan (a bit too dry, and pretty small portion for 10 rmb). The mushroom mutter could have used a bit more kick and flavour too. I'd be interested in going back and trying some other things while they've still got the 15% discount.
