Been asking the same question for an awful long time. The answer once again is go put more pages in your passport.
Please keep an eye on the road signs as there seems to be a problem with the actual distance.
So far I have these roadsigns:
Kunming - Shilin = 80
Kaiyuan - Mengzi = 38
Mengzi - Hekou = 141
Write a letter and you will get positive results. Unfortunately, most people are unwilling to take the time to write a letter. Calling the hotline is a waste of time. I learned this lesson a long time ago so I only write letters and they always reply with the punishment that was given to the driver.
So what is the problem at the destination?
If you care to see my letters and the replies I will be happy to show you. I have an entire binder with over 40 letters and replies from all over Yunnan.

The new Visa office is located at 118 Tuo Dong Road. There is no number on the building yet so do not bother to look for it. There are 2 passport photo shops on either side of the building. The office is located directly in front of the Kunming Museum. The bus stop is named - Shi Bo Wu Guan - Bus 1, 62, 109, 117, 145, 213, A1 and K3 stop directly in front of the office. Foreigners need to go to the 3rd floor. The Tuo Dong Stadium is located to the right of the office while Baita Road is located to the left of the office.
Kunming to invest in public electric car fleet
Posted byMy wife is from Shandong and that is the solar capital of China. They make all sorts of solar stuff including cars. After I visited there we tried to get a solar/elec car and bring it to KMG but when we inquired here they are NOT allowed. Lets see if this chnages the rules here so we can get our own and not have to buy the only one they offer from Hangzhou.
