Hey Dudeson's,

Thanks for the info. That's really interesting, I'll try to check it out next time I go to the temple. It's strange for sure, I know I got a little bit of a red carpet treatment there since I came in as a representative of Kung fu Tai Chi Magazine, but I'm surprised they didn't even mention the school during the interview...
Anyway, I'll look into it.

Yay! I can post links now.

Chris, if you go to the kung fu magazine forum, I have a thread about the Guandu Shaolin Temple there and also a thread called "In Kunming," which talks a lot about my kung fu related experiences in Kunming in general.

It's very hard to find a comprehensive kung fu program here, I rarely see anyone practicing any partner drills.

I wasn't going to mention it on this thread as I'll only be in Kunming for a couple more months, but I am actually teaching some gongfu (beginner level) myself here. It's free. Monday and Friday 2pm to 3:30 at the park where Ren Min Zhong meets Wu Yi, you'd be welcome to come check it out.

Strange...you sure we're going to the same place Dudeson? Where is the school?

I've been training during the day on Wednesdays, and it's been virtually a private class...When do you go? Who is the teacher? I'd be curious to check it out, I've got nothing against wushu. :)

Hi HFCAMPO,

Shaolin is only overseeing four of the temples there: Miaozhan, Fading, Tuzhou, and Guanyin. I'm currently training in Tuzhou, but I started out at Miaozhan. Miaozhan is the central temple and the place to go to enquire about training. Lunch is in Fading. And if you want to buy Shaolin medicine, Guanyin is the place to go. :)

Have been training in Shaolin gongfu at the temple for a few months now. The training is very traditional,NOT modern performance wushu. The monks and temple employees are very friendly and welcoming. The temples are quiet and peaceful, free from the hordes of tourists that visit the Songshan Shaolin Temple. Cost of training is negotiable.
As an opportunity to study Shaolin gongfu with real Shaolin monks without going to Henan, the Guandu Temples can't be beat.
