I did not criticize any single band. What I criticize is the status quo of the music scene in Kunming. If you think that 5 bands on a Friday night and 3 on a Saturday night gigging and one open-mic per week is an acceptable music scene, then there is definetly something very wrong. I have been running an open-mic for the past 6 years, and have put in my share of making a contribution to Kunming. I went to every Camel jam there was until they were cancelled due to drunken disorderliness by players and loudness reported to the police. Then Movida took over and I refused to participate, because once again, it was approached commercially. As their posters stated: "Play with the best musicians in Kunming, Our partner venues", etc. What a crock! Why can't a jam be run for the sake of a jam, for the sake of the music? Why is does there always have to be a financial motive behind it?

What I want to know, is when are the bands of Kunming and the current monkey gig regime going to wake up and start doing something positive for this city? You get 1000 a pop for a monkey gig but you get nothing for doing an open mic? Still interested? Probably not. In terms of the blues jam, it is purely blues. The Gate is at point now, only through hard work that it can host the jam. It's for the public and for people that want to practice. But if you're not interested in playing the blues, then it won't be something that would interest you.

Our responsibility first and foremost is to make a contribution to this city. But up until now, I see NO ONE doing anything except to argue about how much god damn money they want from a monkey show. Please, enough...

I guess that means the forum doesn't want to come to our humble Blues Jam this Wednesday at Wenlin, haha:) That's ok, no problem, I understand. Oh by the way, there's a monkey gig next week, 1000 a man, need a bass player, 4 people minimum? Anybody in?

Yeah, right, put that mirror on your own face. It's clear there are no supporters of Kunming music in this forum. I am Jesus, the son of God, I am the self-righteous, please crucify me, do with me as you wish, and I forgive everyone of you, because Father, they know not what they do. Happy now???

On an invididual basis, I sincerely ask each one of you: "What have you personally done to contribute to the growth of music in Kunming in the past 5-10 years? What have you done to give both Chinese and Western musicians an equal platform on which to practice music?" The answer, not a thing, except make excuses for why Kunming music sucks so bad, or make excuses for why something won't work. Sounds like true communism in most beautiful and elegant form.

Ok, give me another bong hit and a few more beers, and I for sure will come around to adhering to the thinking of the current regime. Yes, reminds me of the stoner from Colorado a few years ago outside of the Psycho Graphics T-shirt shop who wanted to kick my little white butt because I wouldn't let his stoned pathetic buddy get on stage and play open-mic. Yes, we are all controlled by one chemical or another, right.

The message is clear, commercial gigs belong to the Chinese musicians, that is where there strength lies, in entertainment. But westerners are different, our strength lies in defining what is known as a true music scence, as it exists in every major city in the west. It too can exist in the east. It's not going to come from a couple of honkies dumping money into their own venue, unless you open 50 at once. It's going to come from a boatload of honkies introducing a western-style music scene to the already existing bars in Kunming.

Send another bong hit my way...

Hey, no problem, I really am only joking...definetly an interesting video. It's just sometimes my stuff gets booted off here for no obvious reason, so I thought I joke about it. Makes me feel like I'm living in America, home of the free and the brave and all that good stuff, hehe.

It's nice to see somebody finally getting angry for a change. However, bet he really lost some major face over that one...Well at least his companion got her 2 cents in at the end. Yet by national standards, this is still all too tame. How bout the Youku video of the traffic incident where one lady gets pissed at another? 1st party gets out of the car to quarrel with the 2nd party, 1st party is too slow on the draw, gets caught in her own opened door as the 2nd party proceeds to bulldoze the two of them into oblivion. Or wait, how bout the Youku video where there is a child laying in the street, in Guangzhou I believe? "Unbeknownst" to passing pedestrains proceeds to get run over several times by a myriad of different vehicles, eventually died in the hospital due to injuries. Or wait, how bout the pictures taken of a rebel town administrator after being "hit" by a dump truck? His body plummeled into the ground and broken at the neck...Or wait...Jimi had it right when he spoke "big deal" as his guitar screamed out the melody to "and our flag was still there". Better take care of your own in this world, sure as hell no one else will.
