Forums > Living in Kunming > What is bad about Kunming and Yunnan? Most of Yunnan is pretty nice, but my top 3 complaints are:
1. racism - racism is very bad, unless you have white skin... but if the economy tanks don't expect that to last.
2. lack of water
3. drug abuse - chain smokers everywhere, and of course please destroy your liver at every meeting/event possible...
Forums > Study > Anybody know about Rosetta software ? The speech recognition for Chinese isn't very good. Even on the highest setting it's quite easy to say gibberish and let you pass. If you're buying it only for that then look for something else.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Justice? What does this have to do with China? The girl learned a hard lesson that unfortunately many have learned in every country. Some people are just plain irresponsible. The situation is very messy, and you can't blame their family and friend's for that.
What do you want the school/police/society to do? Force him to pay for an abortion? Force him to be her boyfriend? Force him to financially support her? Unless they were married I don't see that happening.
I suppose if you wanted to make a big deal about it, and feed off xenophobia in China you could contact the news and immigration department.....
Forums > Travel Yunnan > Stone Forest Scam When I went there a year or so ago the locals didn't seem too happy about the people managing the tourism. Maybe the gate was moved farther away to make it more difficult for the locals to sneak people in?
Though this practice of hiking fees, and building tourist traps has been quite common for a quite a while now... so can't say I'm surprised.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Please may somebody help me to get Studient Visa in Kunming? The visa is actually relatively cheap. Last time I checked a 1 year visa was about 800 RMB. Most schools charge about 3,000 to 4,000 RMB per semester. So one year of classes plus visa will cost about 6,800 to 8,800 RMB.
Most schools require about 10 hours of classes each week.
Farmers protest land grab south of Kunming

Fog shuts down Kunming airport, strands thousands
Posted byApparently a journalist interviewed the locals and they were quite confused on why they built an airport there. This area is known to have dense fog every year, and yet they didn't prepare for it... meh.
The only thing more perplexing is the new law to give tickets for running a yellow light (but I guess that completely backfired already)
Dianchi activists look to spotlight declining fish stocks
Posted byuhm, I thought the water in Dianchi was rated unsafe even for industrial use. Why would they let people fish there? Celebrate National Day, and get cancer free... glad I never eat fish in Kunming.

So have they rebuilt the library at the local college they declared unsafe to occupy after the earthquake yet?
