The situation changes often. Does anyone know if this is possible with a proper visa right now? Sorry about the crappy spelling.
@AlexKMG: she's twelve. I think a bit of naiveté may come with the territory, thus the request for help.
I'll be a bit more specific: she would like to know the differences between things like child-rearing in big cities vs in the countryside. Same goes for differences between games kids play at recess, school year and curriculum differences, what adults do for entertainment etc. Her class is traveling to Xizhou later this year and she's doing preliminary research now to see what major differences exist.
GoKunming just received an email from an incredibly inquisitive and precocious young woman who lives in Shanghai. She needs help writing about life in rural Yunnan and has several questions I can't answer. Is there anyone out there familiar with Xizhou who would be willing to help?
@blobbles: There will not be a GoKunming story about this. Details, at this point, are speculation and we would prefer the bombast taking place on Weibo not spill over here. What we do know is that the concerned parties spent the night in police arbitration where they reached a mutual agreement.

Passable no-frills Dongbei food including lots of dumplings, tofu, disanxian and other standards. Fair prices too.
A pleasant surprise hiding inconspicuously inside the Second Ring Road. Go for the temple, stay for the lovely forested park and its ample solitude.
Excellent service even when packed and the food is top notch. Great group of owners too.
Had the buffet here recently. A bit expensive but discounts are available for groups. Seafood, including crab, lobster and sushi were all fantastic. European and Chinese dishes were great as well. Beer was included with dinner. Overall, excellent service and food.
Excellent dumplings for omnivores, vegetarians and carnivores. This is a hole in the wall joint with no frills, but the owners are friendly and the dumplings are just right. Five stars if they get higher quality vinegar.
