I have a few questions regarding Weishan (巍山), south of Dali.
- From what bus station in Dali/Xiaguan should I take the bus?
- How long is the bus ride?
- Are there hotels/guesthouses in Weishan? Any recommendations?
- From Weishan, are there any buses towards Lincang/Cangyuang?
- Are there any other old / ethnic villages to see around Weishan?
Thanks for the tips
I have info about Weishan on buckchucko.com.
The local bus station in-front of the high way, on the way to way to Weishan there is a famous ethnic village called dong hua
Nice town, considerable history (origin on Nanzhao Kingdom), guesthouses & hotels, bus takes about an hour. Weibaoshan nearby, mountain with Taoist temples, nice for forest walks, I'm sure there's transport there from Weishan - in fact there's accomodations at Weibaoshan itself.
As you drive into Dali from the highway you will see the tall buildings with windwmills as you pass the toll gate. The bus will turn right and many people will get off right here. Get out and walk 20 meters to your left and you will find the bus station that takes you to Weishan. Weishan is 51 km south and the bus ride takes about 1 hour via a good road. From Weishan you can get a bus to Yun Xian and then take another bus to Lincang. The fastest way to go to Lincang is from Dali and there is no need to change buses.

Thank you guys for your travel tips! Very useful!
HighSky - So did you make it to Weishan? How as it?
HFCAMPO - Not in Weishan yet. Should arrive some time during next week.
Weishan is comparatively poorly connected by buses. There's only one bus a day from Weishan to Yunxian. If you miss it, you can get a bus to Nanjian, and from there you will find lots of Lincang-bound buses (all the buses bound for Lincang from Dali and Kunming pass through Nanjian).
Donglinhua village, near Yongjiang, is very nice, an excellently preserved Muslim tea horse caravan stop.
