Hi everyone. I'm heading back with a twist... anyone ever tried getting a Chinese visa in Kathmandu? Any info greatly appreciated.

Yeah, was working on a ship for a few months, first in South America, then in the Caribbean. But I just can't stay away from Kunming... so I need a visa, haha.

Was possible to get a Chinese visa in Kathmandu in 1986, if that's any help, and you could enter by land from Nepal to Tibet as an independent 3rd-country national then. I suspect that times have changed for that kind of trip.

There's a Chinese embassy with consular services in Kathmandu, so a visa should be available.

Easy or hard often depends on the mood of the person looking after you at that moment in time.
