@atwilden: I know this kind of racist attitude exists, believe me - I meant has anybody experienced this in Kunming from a 'White' person.

I was sitting in a tea shop the other day and a girl walks in with her parents. Within 10 minutes, the girl's father was trying to hook me up with his daughter. this is the first time this has ever happened to me in china. It's nice to see that some Chinese folks are tolerant.

@Magnifico, are you sure you were not just being set up to give free English lessons?
I know a case of one Yunnan girl who was told by her family that she now has to marry her white boyfriend, with whom she has been living, because now the rest of the village view her as 'tainted' (having been with a foreigner) and she would not be able to find a local husband.
no it wasn't. and the girl knew what her father was trying to do and immediately shot down her father's suggestion. obviously quickly realizing that i'm a loser laowai in china and she was way out of my league.
ps: i'm considering moving to shanghai. there's too much small village mentality here. being stared at, gossiping, ...
Yeah, heard quite a few of those comments about being contaminated by a foreigner as well. Same in the West for White girls who are known to have been with Black guys in particular.
@ Alien— yes, from foreigners (including white, black, yellow, green and rainbow). Though most who espouse those ideas keep it quiet in public.
@tiger: this syndrome is, unfortunately, fairly prevalent.
@atwilden: strike them smartly about the head and shoulders if this comes up again.
I myself was a loser laowai when I was in China a couple of years ago. I was unemployed, depressed, haven't had a date in years, stressed out, angry, and just wanted to get out of America.
I came to China thinking everything would end up being better and I would have better luck with women. I was hoping to "slay" a bunch of Chinese women but only ended up messing around with a few.
I loved getting attention from Chinese women, something I never got back in the States. In America, I never had a woman come up to me, smile, and chat. In China, it would happen quite often. For some reason, white women do not give me the time of day. I'm a white male BTW, I'm not fat, I workout, I am good with my money, but for some reason, white women are not interested in me.
I went to China without a plan and that is why I ultimately "failed". I didn't really know what I was going to do here. I wanted to study at YNNU and master the Chinese lang. but I just wasn't focused enough. I knew I didn't want to teach English. I ended up staying in Kunming for about 3 or 4 months before I went to Hong Kong for a month.
If I had to do it again, I would have stayed for at least a year or two and I would have tried to start sometype of business.
BTW, I have the balls to say I was a loser. Most guys will never admit that, even if it's true. With that being said, when I was there back in 2010, most of the laowai's that hung out in Salvadors were also losers.
@Dawei5
You are the poster formly known as Gaoxing.
Not that's there's anything wrong with that.
You need to come back because you really miss it here.
