Forums > Living in Kunming > Any good hospital in town for back problems? You're never the same after an accident, so there is a chance it's related. But back pain is a supremely tricky diagnosis. Lots of people in your situation will get all kinds of answers, from even highly trained Western doctors. Don't be too harsh on the Kunming doctor, a Western doctor might of prescribed the same meds, as that's a fairly mild treatment for a first diagnosis. He could of recommended exercise, but China is a pill popping culture too.
For minor chronic back pain, I'd try machines at a gym that work out the shoulders and lower back (gyms in Kunming have poor selection of those machines). Massages can alleviate the symptoms, but won't cure it. Never tried it, but yoga is as probably as good as back exercises. Back pain has a high chance of being chronic, so it's just something you might have to mitigate rather than try to cure.
Chiropractors, oxycodone, and surgery should not be considered (or as a final resort). Heard to many horror stories related to each of those.
Forums > Food & Drink > Donkey Meat It's not Muslim, but I pass by a very popular minority restaurant that serves a donkey hotpot. I've never tried it myself.
This link is where it is. Pretty sure that's the restaurants name.

Past the 2nd ring road, you start finding more restaurants that specialize in donkey. I passed one with three very nice looking donkeys tied up in front (felt sorry for the animals, but they looked like they had a good life and were well taken care of). It was on the road to the Yunnan Agricultural University, up north a bit further.
Forums > Travel Yunnan > Trek from Daju to Baoshan-Shitoucheng I haven't done this, but it would be similar to TLG. Going in, you can't really avoid the fee (it's possible, but you have to enter by foot/bike at night on the eastern side) but going out, no one really cares to check if you've paid or not. Also TLG doesn't care if your just passing through and your destination is elsewhere; entering means paying.
I would assume the snow mountain is like that too, since the bus going in you pay, but leaving no fee.

Yah, I saw the multiple same day suspicious 5 star reviews of the new Korean restaurant. Agree, total BS.
@blobbles
You can't even directly add listings to GoK. They experimented a while back and it failed for whatever reasons. You might be asking too much of GoK.

I haven't tried that one. My roomate said there is a similar place around Beichen like the one I listed above.
@Geezer
I only rode by the place and tried the lambsticks they had grilling outside. I'll go back now to give that la mian a try. Wouldn't mind getting a taste of authentic Xinjiang or close to it.
@blobbles
The listing section for food and drink just brings up an alphabetical list. Clicking on reviews just brings up a time dated review of all things. Plus it's dominated by reviews of the usual suspects.

Getting Away: Vang Vieng
Posted byRegarding the roads, my impression was the opposite. I left Vientiane for VV via bus and found the road ok. From VV to Luang Prabang the road was quite miserable.
Nothing better than floating down the river with some of your friends; however, avoid the bar with the giant concrete slide. A Swiss guy drowned last year after using the slide, and it's cause innumerable other injuries to party-goers. Also, the tube doesn't make up for not being a good swimmer.
Safety concerns plague national school lunch program
Posted byVery happy that poor kids are getting a free meal at school...Very sad they are forced to eat spoiled food at times.
I think the children should be given 3rmb food vouchers to be spent with the local chefs and vendors outside the school. No more troubles for the schools to operate a kitchen, and the children can decide with their pocketbook (aka vouchers) which vendors food tastes best. If no food vendors can make decent food for 3rmb per child, then the gov't knows why the schools are forced to use rotten stuff at times.
