Hi,
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of shipping items back home?
For instance how long, expensive, and reliable is it to ship a 25kg+ box of clothing and other personal items to the USA from Kunming.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

I can only get the 30 day extensions from the PSB at a cost of 940 rmb per, and I have to submit a copy of no flights out.
I am a USA national with 10 year china mutli entry visa, but it's L category, so tourist class.
Anyone know of other options or cheaper options or longer options to get permits or extensions to stay in China?
I asked the PSB, and they said 30 days was max for my situation, and said I should go find a company to work for or get married to a local as options to stay in China longer.
Does this 160rmb stay permit from this article exist?
"13). The usual cost for a stay permit is RMB 160, but you do not have to pay until you pick it up."

I am assuming there is still very little chance of re-entering China if I leave, otherwise, I would do what I use to do and go to Hekou and cross into Vietnam and just re-enter.
Mine is the one for the Think UK complex.
It's on Remin Lu more or less directly south of Think UK. Sorry, I dont have a name or phone for it as I just visit in person usually or use their wechat channel.
I have forgotten to mention, that other than a new date of departure, nothing else was issued to me after I got the extension.
No reissue of the slip they tear off and stamp.
My office just gave me a new exit date and told me to remember it.

Quick suggestion.
The article tigertiger linked has an informational article linked in Chinese.
You could try again at your local registration office on Monday.
Show them the Chinese article.
I think with a little effort on their part, they can grant you the extension.
Whether they make that effort always varies from government office to office.
Also let them know another foreigner in WuHua district already got the 2 month extension granted at their local office.
Maybe that inspires them to look into it further also.
Here is the Chinese link.

With translation, around the middle of the article, there is paragraph that says:
"During the period of epidemic prevention and control, if the period of stay and stay of foreigners in China expires, it can be automatically postponed for 2 months. During the period of extension, there is no need to go through the extension procedure, and they can still stay in China legally or leave the country normally."
The rest of the q&a of the article isn't relevant, so ask them to find that paragraph.

Never gotten sick once at Sals. Their food is TexMex, so yeah, not authentic Mexican food, but pretty authentic as TexMex goes. Burrito wrap has improved a lot. Like the draft beer option now.
If you haven't had dairy products in a while, and do eat here, best forgo the sour cream. Nothing wrong with it, in fact it's the best sour cream in Kunming, but if you've eaten Chinese for month or months with no dairy intake, your system will react to sour cream or probably any liquid dairy product not so well. Maybe that's what happened with nailer and tallamerican.
Update:
It's now 5 working days for regular processing. So I submitted my application a bit before 5pm on a Friday and was told to pick it up next week Friday after 5pm.
Cost is now 400rmb for a single 30 day entry. Or that was what I was charged anyways. There are no posted prices and its cash only with no receipt except for your passport pickup. That's like $65 USD.
You can pay another 150rmb for 2 day or 100rmb for 3 day processing. For 400rmb, they should process it in three days like they used to before, but now you'd pay 500rmb. The office is still like deserted most of the time, so why does it take longer now and cost extra. If you opted for 2 day, thats like $90 usd. All other neighboring countries charge like $25usd.
The rest of and cope review is still good for hours and location.
Far out, less people. Big enough to get lost in. Pretty and quiet near dusk. 20yuan entrance fee.
Like everyone else says, best Indian food in Kunming. They have lunch plates and dinner plates. Show up before 1pm for lunch.
They are on the 4th floor of the half empty shopping mall. Best way is too take the elevator past the KFC around the corner from Starbucks.
Most individual dishes can feed only two hungry guys, so order more if you are starving. Naan order can take care of one only.
Five stars for the food. Go with Yereth's recommendations, plus any vegetable the waitress says is fresh.
Beware that Xue Fu lu is one way, so many taxis have to take a roundabout way to get here.
Kunming Fair again sets records
Posted byThis is becoming a major draw for locals, nearing the crowds of the auto fair. Traffic around the area was a nightmare though. Also, this fair was open to public (ticket 30rmb).

That is if you are lucky and the guard station is off eating lunch or break. Or you can show up at night. Last time I went through on the east entrance, the guards chased me down in a minivan and demanded I pay the 50rmb (now 65) entrance ticket, even though I was just planning on passing through.
No guards care if you are leaving TGL at either entrance, but if you weren't checked entering, then that's good luck.

Posted byYet another 15rmb increase. Though Tiger Leaping is one of the fees I think is well worth it.
The scenery on the East Ring that Geogramatt mentioned is wonderful. You'll need raingear cause your riding with the clouds at one point. Bit spartan on services, so bring some energy bars and extra bottle of water. If your in good shape, you can make the halfway point of 白水台 in a day by bike.
