Did you by any chance read the first post I made which explains everything in detail???

6 - Unlike any other tests (PRETCO - CET - TEM) the PETS test can best prepare students who will eventually take the TOEFL, IELTS or TOEIC exams. - PETS has 4 parts - Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking.

I just read an ad here in GK where someone was advertising that they can teach/help a student with IELTS or TOEFL. I find these ads extremely amusing because how can a teacher claim to help a student when they have no idea of what their level was before or after they teach. A recent test score (within the last 6 months) may be used as a guide only. A CET score from 2 years ago is meaningless.

Another question is – How much can a student absorb in 3 months or 6 months? As most people who reply to these ads are usually less then 3 months away from their exam. Rarely do I see a student looking for a teacher when their exam date is 1 year away.

I firmly believe that any teacher who accepts students for less then 3 or 6 months is only interested in money and has no business teaching. With no objective means of knowing a students level before you begin to teach them or after they are completed, how can one call themselves a teacher - ABSURD? 1 year is the minimum time required to genuinely prove that you (Teacher) have actually taught and helped the student improve - 1 year = 2 PETS tests.

Since a student can NOT fail IELTS, they get a score regardless of how bad they did, it is important to know the equivalents between PETS and IELTS. Example: A student who can barely pass PETS3 (100 RMB) will never get above a 5.5 in IELTS. So if they already know that they need a 6.5 to get into a university why the hell would they even bother taking IELTS (1700 RMB)?

The answer to this simple question is ignorance - because no one ever told the student that the best way to prepare and measure your IELTS score is by using PETS.

The sooner the better - No harm done if they take the test early. Part of the process is getting the kids used to taking this test every 6 months - After a few times, there is no stress and no pre-test jitters. Then they can focus on improving their scores and ultimately passing the test. We begin as early as the 2nd grade.

We have 1 student who passed PETS1 when he was in 2nd grade and passed PETS2 when he was in 4th grade.

PETS1 is the middle school level test and PETS2 is the high school level test = same as Gao Kao.

When parents realize that their kids passed the English part of the Gao Kao before high school they are very satisfied. NO advertising is required and all students come from word of mouth.

I do not know of any English teachers or English Training Schools who use the PETS tests as a training/learning tool or as a means to measure the students' progress.

FEAR - The moment that parents realize that PETS tests are the same as Gao Kao, parents will demand that teachers and schools help their children pass this exam - at that point many of those teachers and schools will be out of a job.

I know of a few training schools that will help students prepare for certain exams - PETS, IELTS, TOEFL, or Gao Kao - but the student must specifically pay for that training class.

At present, teachers and schools are very content that they can take money from parents and never be held accountable for actually providing the service they are supposed to provide. Teachers and schools love ignorant parents who never ask or require proof of how their children are progressing.

The only exception to this is a few high schools that now require their students to take the PETS2 their senior year - A bit late but - better late then never.

PETS 2 = the same English test students get when they take the Gao Kao (高考) - test from High School to University.

How about Chinese Language schools - do they ask their foreign students to take the HSK exam?

If ofo can throw away thousands of bikes and leave them destroyed on many city streets across China, then it must be getting (Stealing) money from somewhere.

It is impossible to run an UNsustainable business model such as this across so many cities.

Even the manufacturer of the ofo bikes should be happy to get those bikes back and repair them and then sell them back to ofo.

These bikes are littering the city streets and the city should FINE ofo for littering.

The new Visa office is located at 118 Tuo Dong Road. There is no number on the building yet so do not bother to look for it. There are 2 passport photo shops on either side of the building. The office is located directly in front of the Kunming Museum. The bus stop is named - Shi Bo Wu Guan - Bus 1, 62, 109, 117, 145, 213, A1 and K3 stop directly in front of the office. Foreigners need to go to the 3rd floor. The Tuo Dong Stadium is located to the right of the office while Baita Road is located to the left of the office.
