Trust me, I did a search, there were four threads, and they were all ancient. Some mention was made of any thread containing the magic three letters being deleted by the moderators

It's true that more Chinese study in the US than any other country, but it's not true that the "vast majority" do. In fact, the US is only the destination for 27% of Chinese studying abroad. That means a full 73% study in countries other than the US!
Here's the rankings
US 27%
UK 22%
Canada 15%
Australia 7%
Singapore 5%
Hong Kong 4%
New Zealand 4%
Switzerland 5%
Germany 3%
France 3%
Japan 2%
Others 3%

See only very old posts on this topic, except for one questionable post from a user with no other posts, which I suspect might be an adbot. Nothing since the recent crakcdonws began before the conrgess last fall.
Its been all over the international news that Chaina is seriously cracking down on vee pee enn services nationwide. I've certainly noticed the decline in performance in my own (I've been using wiitoopeeah for the last 2 years) in these last few months.
Mine is expiring soon and I'm thinking about switching if there are any better options out there that have been performing better.
Realize this is a senseteve subject, hence the distoorted spelling. Suggest anyone who reply to this thread do the same.
Time to get out of Kunming. Pretty much any town you go to in Yunnan is going to be surrounded by suitable mountain biking trails. And once you're out of Kunming, you're a lot less likely to run into those annoying forest guards and closed trails.
15. Foot bath + toenail trimming + dead skin scraping + foot massage for only 15 kuai (many places around town). Throw in another 5 kuai for a shoulder massage.
16. Regular body massage, 60 minutes for 30 kuai (many places around town).
17. All-you-can-drink drip coffee at Sal's before 2 pm, 12 kuai.
18. All-you-can-eat salad bar at Wicker Basket, 28 kuai.
19. Homemade meals. Inflation may be driving up consumer goods and services, but vegetables are still hella cheap in Kunming.
20. Fruit from the minivans. It's cheaper than in the produce markets.
21. The drinks at GoMax. 8 kuai for a smoothie, instead of 12-18 kuai for the same thing at most other drink shops.
22. Kunming bus. 1 kuai to get across town is a good deal.

This is a really nice new restaurant in Dali. High quality vegetarian and vegan food, varied menu, daily specials. They make their own kombucha, too. The environment is very chill...multiple layers, floor seating, an outdoor courtyard and terrace balcony overlooking the the roofs of the neighbors in old Dali
Serendipity is an honest-to-gosh American style diner, a concept I don't think I've ever really seen before in China.
They do salads, burgers, and pasta dishes, but the true stars of the menu are the breakfasts, which are served all day.
No measly hostel breakfast sets, these ones come with heaping servings of bacon and eggs and bottomless coffee.
No table seating. Everyone sits around the counter, where you can see what's going on in the kitchen and chat with the friendly staff.
The fresh donuts are the best I've had in China
The 68 kuai Saturday night all-you-can-eat buffet is a terrific deal.
Steak, pork loin, chicken schnitzel, pizza, two kinds of salad, creme de caramel, cheesecake, and lots of other stuff.
Recently experienced both very early morning departure and very late night arrival at Changshui. Was worried about making the connection to and from the airport, but both turned out well.
First, the departure. It was 7:30 am. I arranged a taxi to pick me up at 5:00. That he did. Cost: 100 yuan.
The departure was scheduled for 12:30 am, was delayed, and didn't get in until 2:30 am. I was sure I'd have to find a black cab, and wasn't even sure if I would find that. Instead, I was delighted to discover that the Airport Express Bus was still running! For 25 yuan it took me to the train station, where I then caught a cab for the short ride the rest of the way home. I was very impressed by this late night bus. I'd thought the buses only ran till around 11 pm-midnight. I don't know if this is a regular occurrence or not. Maybe, knowing my flight was delayed and there would be hundreds of passengers looking for a ride home, the airport dispatched an extra bus. If so, kudos to whoever was responsible!

Old Kunming apartment complexes looking to build new elevators
Posted byThis is weird. Aren't all the old walk-ups just going to be torn down and replaced with modern high-rises anyway? Also, 250,000 is not "expensive"...it's incredibly cheap. I for one cannot believe they can install an elevator for just 250,000 yuan. Also, the residents pay a one-time fee. But who pays for the elevator's maintenance and upkeep?

Hongshan outdoor street market closes permanently
Posted byThanks for the report, Patrick.
The street market that's disappearing was just a blip on the timeline. I think given the narrowness of Hongshan Dong Lu the street market was unsustainable. I still miss the old wet market that was located at the bottom of the hill, next to the train tracks in that big old brick building, which is now 版筑翠园。Relocation to Zeka Supermarket sounds like a good option. Do you know the exact location?
