Yunnan University and Yunnan Nationalities University, and most other universities have moved their main campus to the southern edge of town. I'm not sure, but I would guess you would study in the old main campus, which will mainly be graduate students.
Yunnan University can't force you to stay in the dorms, and many people say they are quite unsatisfactory. My advice is when you first come rent a hotel for a week or two, or some "short-term" apartment.
A home stay program sounds great, but smoking is very common in China. So even if your host family doesn't smoke it's more than likely their relatives do. Even with inflation being quite high rent is still fairly inexpensive.
Why not just list them on the forum?
Easy loans. Government investment in construction to keep the economy going. Insider selling, and price fixing.
Essentially a housing bubble with Chinese characteristics. People get easy loans, buy new apartments from friends before they are available to the public. Gather with their friends and say don't sell or rent below such and such price. Wait a short amount of time and sell it.
That's why the rent is so high now. Many of the apartments were just bought on easy loans, and they use the rent to pay off the loans. It's also why you see so many empty apartments in new buildings that are 2 or 3 years old, the owners are just waiting to sell them to make a quick buck.
The central government knows this and are scared shitless because they aren't quite sure how to cool the economy down without bursting the bubble.
There are always lots of children at the north fellowship on Sunday mornings. There's is also a foreign church service in western Kunming. Asking someone at KIA(Kunming International Academy) would be a good idea too.

Cheese tasted great. Much better than other pizza joints.
Excellent salad bar. Hamburgers are usually ok. The fancier dishes were a little lacking.
Giving it a 4 stars for the salad bar. If you were going there for "fine dining" then probably best to go somewhere else.
The store also has some nice imported food(though obviously Metro is cheaper for some things). The freshly baked goods are nice too.
Seems to be pretty hit or miss. First time I went there the pizza and hamburgers were great. 2nd time the pizza was terrible, and the hamburger was ok. 3rd time the pizza was ok, but people were smoking inside by the time we left. Guess the no smoking policy is not enforced.
Not bad. Pretty much what you would expect, but expensive for China.
Expensive, but decent bread. Other places are better, but not bad if you're in a hurry.
Kunming cracking down on 'uncivilized' behavior...again
Posted byThe traffic police will be the ones smoking in the corner and spitting.... while the cars will be parked down the center of the street, and cars going down the wrong way because they can't turn left due to said cars in the middle of the street.
Just saw it this week on a road just off of Beijing Lu.

Government undertaking aims to flush Dianchi clean
Posted byLast time I checked heavy pollutants can't be "flushed" clean. The title should be related to this: "the effort is expected to provide Kunming with another source of water in times of drought as well as generate hydropower."
Beijing Lu road construction to last nine more months
Posted byAnd they can move the bus stops into the bike lines like all the newly redone streets and free up two more lanes on Beijing Lu..... it's working so well. I heard the hospitals love it.
