Why do miserable foreigners remain in China?

So you are just convinced that China is a horrible place, and you know better than 1.5 billion people, and you are preparing to return to your Edenic home? Bon voyage!

Would you all shut the hell up already? Or at least I hope the mods would close this chain and other nonsense chains like it. Who the hell seriously cares if silly laowai don't want to eat Chinese food or only exclusively eat Chinese food. Food is food. As long as its done as well in moondog or Salvador's why complain about it. Yeah you get to save 10 kuai per meal if you eat mixian, but sometimes you want chili or quesadillas. So fuggetaboutit already. Seriously to all the haters of laowai food, why do you really care if I go waste 50 kuai at the import section? I have money and so does the other guy so we'll spend it how we like. Maybe you'd take the 50 kuai spend 10 kuai on mixian and then pay for a sexy massage. I spend it on pringles and Nutella. And if you don't like it I don't care.

And I am surprised that no one mentions the enormous environmental crisis as a problem, in this thread.

(Or did someone....theres too much nonsense to bother to wade through the thread anyway.)

@mmkunmingteacher
I don't think teaching and pointing out or raising awareness is teaching.

But it's their own stupid fault. I can't have one dinner without hearing the history of where the table cloth came from to the great values of tea [agreed if it would be polluted to the smallest vain] and ever smallest table manner, blabla and why having face is so important.

If there would be shut up about the pride of something that doesn't exist.

I could enjoy my China time even more and explore myself what I really wanna study or learn about the culture.

I agree with Peter99 there isn't one crisis that China isn't in balls deep, and not giving a damn about.

I lived in other Chinese countries including Taiwan I never had to spill a word about their manners or whatever because there isn't this craze about a culture that doesn't exist.

Same in Hongkong, no culture and values teaching there, because as every sane human being, they know culture can't be taught or preached, especially if it virtually doesn't exist.

And as I mentioned earlier I am not expecting anything from Chinese, that isn't heavily advertised in their own culture or preached by it's culture or people.

Try it out and as a previous poster earlier said, there are available books telling and explaining traits of this culture.

Even the autobiography of Confucius [??I'm serious]
Wild Swans for the more recent past and if you can get hold of a copy.
plenty more...go to Mandarin bookstore and go nuts.

See, if I am trying or if I am preaching my Western lifestyle on them or if it's their own BS they are trying to force on everyone but can't even follow themselves.

My list would look different than most peoples here. I keep the rights to not have an obligation to explain too much on any premises. I could easily make a top-20 "reasons" list, but a top-5 would be something like this:

1. The environmental crisis (water, earth and air)
2. The moral and mental crisis.
3. The unreliability of products (incl. consumable products)
4. The urbanization.
5. A potential in the horizon concerning an escalating of problems, (including a violent nationalism in an international crisis).

Thats a spontaneous "top-5". Personally I have had a lot of respect for many Chinese I have known, and can not relate to all stories of rudeness etc. I can see a thin red line in mmkunmingteachers claims too, but he exaggerates things, provokes intentionally and flips things put of context on purpose.

Theres an expat mentality taking place in some circles that can cross a line, ai believe, and sometimes near the context of "colonial" (to use mm's wording) although I believe the root is more some uncertainty on cultural issues, arrogance and a dose of cultural imperialism. This seems to have declined over the years when it comes to China. At least, since China went to the space with a shuttle, those guys looking for a pub brawl, seem to get it too.

Yeah I haven't really bothered to look at this post, as I suspected trash from the get go. I can't believe people are still posting here.

Tell me about it Mandrake, I tried reading a single page and there is so much jumping around, people taking the extreme cases of each others arguments, such blatant wilful misapprehension, that it made reading more than about 4 posts unbearable. Not to mention the terrible English used and now people trying to encompass all the worlds problems. The least people could do is stay on topic.

Clearly if anyone thinks they are going to reach some sort of resolution with the attitudes they have, they need a reality check.

@blobbles and mandrake
....although you are still reading and posting and filling it with as you'd call it 'trash'. no offense but that isn't very smart to point at others and being a bad boy yourself.

plus trolling and highjacking the thread,

congrats, you are just as mean, silly and dumb as everyone else.

blobbles
plus the english is terrible argument is old,boring, condecending and unnecessary unless you so privileged to only communicate in written language with native speakers, apt enough in this language so your weary eyes can rest,away from our insulting grammar and spelling.
maybe you should consider leaving the gok forums and try in native speaking countries, because not everyone here is a native speaker or bothered enough to take extra classes or a scolding from a condescending whatnot....ooops
