If it is time sensitive, I would make sure that a certified photocopy is acceptable. Remember that the person you spoke to could have just agreed with your suggestion if they were unsure of what they were doing. Been there, done that, then had to start the whole thing again.

According to an email from the Chinese embassy in my country:

"If you are unable to provide your actual passport, a verified copy is OK."

So I assume all should be good.

Does it define 'verified copy'? and copied by whom?
The by whom could be important.

You don't need to answer me, I am not trying to be pedantic, just remembering the old adage, 'the only stupid question is the one that wasn't asked'.
