Yes it can be done, but is difficult.
But you cannot hold dual citizenship. You would have to relinquish your US citizenship.

I have read that foreigners can apply for political asylum, why don't you give that a try. As said above it does mean that you would give up your American citizenship.

Australia would be easier, especially if you're white (caucasian). You should first ask yourself, "Why would China want me?" Japan also awards citizenship to foreigners NOT of Japanese descent, but they contribute significantly to Japan's culture or business environment. What value do you bring?
As an alternative, you can try the reverse green card trick and marry a local - but again - what benefit would you provide that someone within the 1.2+ billion other domestic options?
Crazy, why would you want to do that ?
You would have all the visa hassles of international travel then.
