Can you suggest me some very cheap accommodation in Kunming?

(And I mean cheap for locals, not cheap for western tourists.)

I think the cheapest dive I have seen recently was a hostel at the back of the western bus station (where the busses drop you off when coming from Dali).

The rooms are along a narrow 60cm-wide corridor (two people cannot pass, it leads to a pretty grim toilet), are less than two square meter in size and have a narrow bunk bed that takes up pretty much all the space, no window, no TV. The bedding looked relatively clean, but I am pretty sure it does not get changed every day. Technically, the rooms sleep two.

I was tempted to ask for the price, but didn't. I would think Y10 pp would be adequate, but since the place seemed a rip-off place for arriving migrant worker they might ask for Y20.

Just so you know, some places won't let you stay if you're a foreigner (and not with a Chinese person).

Yeah, I ran into that last summer while visiting my girlfriend in the city. She actually had to tell them that we were married, before they would give her a room. I forget the name of the place though.
