Kunming xmas snow fight

GoK Moderator (5096 posts) • 0

Just seen the news.
Reminder story about Kunmings annual snow fight. Last year was the worst ever, with many thousands participating.

For those who are new to Kunming.
There is a huge gathering of young people carrying cans (some industrial sized) of fake snow. Attempts to ban the sale in the past have failed.

Most of it centres around Jinbi Square, if memory serves. Expect traffic to grind to a halt, and I think they were showing road closures on the news.

Be aware. That stuff can ruin leather/sheepskin/suede clothing. Wear crappy clothes if you go out.

Perhaps someone can remember if it is Xmas eve or Xmas day.

Just a kind reminder:

If someone acts a tit and uses snow to ruin my suade shoes then my ruined suade shoes will be ruining someone's face.

Is this another ridiculous aspect of Americana that has infiltrated the youth culture or did they dream this brilliant idea up themselves?

Means I'll have to go to midnight mass in my scruffs.

@tiger - it's Christmas eve. It's also crazy around Nanping Square and Nanping street.
If you look anything other than Asian you can also expect to become a prime target! Nothing malicious, they're just helping the laowai to enjoy their festival.

The spray also iritates eyes and lungs... who knows what's in that stuff.

Sounds like a bit of fun at christmas, thought that was the idea :)

Sounds worth hanging out rather than avoiding! But then again I love christmas lol

there's nothing 'Christmas' or fun about it. Even my Chinese employer has warned us to avoid the area. @Redjon777 - pop down and have a look... let us know how it was. ;)

Here is our article from this time last year:

www.gokunming.com/[...]

PSB has issued a similar notice for this year. Here is part of it in Chinese:

www.yn.xinhuanet.com/newscenter/2015-12/22/c_134939667.htm

Pretty much every major road (16 to be exact) around Nanping Square and Jinma Biji Fang is closed to traffic tonight and bus routes have been changed. Unfortunately, the second article only recommends checking at actual bus stops for re-route schedules.

Cancelled Christmas this year for me anyway lol, bad timing with family planning issues....

There ain't no plan that a 39 week pregnant woman can't cut short!
