Hi. I was wondering which new concepts about F&B are actually running well in Kunming and all Yunnan

If food and beverage is what you're talking about, have you checked out Humdinger? They brew their own beer on site and have a pretty good barbecue menu (apparently wood-fired pizza is also on the way).

It's not a new concept, but it's new to Kunming. Venues like this are all the rage in Beijing and Shanghai.

It is best to ask rather than ASSume. Personally, I would wait for a reply to know what F&B means, but the NEED to reply is so addictive that most people talk without knowing the actual facts.

there is no ASSuming. Unless the OP doesn.t specify, F&B means food and beverage. It.s a pretty well established abbreviation.

it.s tricky to say which businesses run well. bakeries always run well. western food depending on quality and price.

hot pot seems lucrative.
sichuan food seems doing ok.

there are plenty of niches not yet put to trial. but i won.t just give em away, like that.

most important for f&b is location.

I am no expert, but from what I see I can say the following, but I am sure others will chip in.
In the local market, there has been a bit explosion of street foods in smaller towns and cities across China. This is also true of juice bars (younger people). This is perhaps evidence of money filtering down through society.
The restaurant market has also changed. The eating out market has changed, in the last two years. Before there was a lot of dirty money floating around paying for very high end meals. The corruption crackdown means that many middle end restaurants are now no longer offering so many expensive foods and they are now more accessible to families on more modest budgets, there are more people eating out.
Burger King are expanding across China, there are now at least three in Kunming, pizza is popular and growing.

With the exception of Thai food, Asian foods are not that popular with Kunming people. There is a good Indian, I think there are about three or four in Kunming. There are many 'international' restaurants with Chinese menus.

European foods are not well represented outside of the expat areas. If you go to an international buffets locals will try some of the international foods, but seem to prefer what they know. However local, expat restaurants have grown in popularity and have been able to move upmarket, but most of the foods are still simple fast order dishes.

Coffee houses have grown. Starbucks seem popular as a place to be seen in. Other western cafe bars are popular. There are many Chinese coffee bars, but this market seems to be saturated, many have closed down.
The beer market has also undergone huge change. The first was the flooding (no pun intended) of the market with cheap European beers, which are now about 1/2 to 1/3 of the old supermarket prices. This has had a knock on effect in the bars for import beers. They are much more affordable now. This is one of the things that is feeding the growth in Chinese bar culture. The second change in the beer market, has been a steady increase in the amount of imported draught beers available. The third and most recent change is micro breweries. I think there are now three serving, or about to serve, Kunming. There are many bars in Kunming now including at least two proper pubs.

Regarding new concept bars. These are for high end customers in mostly private bars. Although there is at least one lounge concept bar.

Tiger - There are at least 5 BKs open right now, and another is to open on Renmin Xi Lu. This is largely because they are (amusingly given their status in the USA/UK) associated with high end shopping malls.
