So... when is this rainy season supposed to end, hypothetically?

Or was today just sympathetic rain for those in Florida?

Where does one find and purchase potassium permanganate (aka the purple stuff) to clean veggies with?

I'm also looking for darkened glass bottles to put the purple stuff in as well, so if you have any idea where to find either of these two items, please let me know.

I woke up yesterday to my street being completely flooded and my electricity and water being shut off. Our apartment complex was using emergency power and only had one of our three elevators working. Now, the streets are cleared and the power and electricity are back on. Overall, I am impressed with how quickly this flooding was dealt with. I watched from my balcony as police officers put stepping stones out so that people could walk from a sidewalk to cross the street without getting soaked. I wasn't as impressed with how they directed traffic (or rather the lack of direction).

So sad to hear that two people died!

I couldn't help but notice all the "Civilized Kunming" posters everywhere... as well as my favorite wet market being taken off the street.

A friend said that Kunming was one of three capital cities that is still ranked as uncivilized and that inspectors were coming during this month to see if the rating needs to be changed to "civilized".

Does anyone know exactly what the inspectors are looking for to rate Kunming as being civilized or not?

I'm just curious what they consider "civilized" to be.
