After living in China for 6 years decided was time to begin moving back to USA. Realized i was never going to be able to communicate easily. Have age related health issues, which minor now, could be much larger problem in future, with many treatment options in USA and none here.
Seems like commercial rentals have not come down or even increased the past 5 years, but personally having lived outside the 2nd ring road my rent the past year was less than 5 years ago. Home i rented 5 years ago was 3,500 rmb and i rented this past year for 2,500.
One of the most painful and long term side affects of dehydration missed by Long-Dragon can be Kidney Stones. Denver has the highest rate of kidney stones in the USA, and i was told 5 years ago while being treated for a kidney stone in a Kunming hospital, that Kunming is the highest in China. Doctor told me Kunming has a higher rate because of dry climate part of year and elevation. If you have never had a kidney stone, for sure an experience to avoid. Lastly the 5 years i lived in Kunming i found to be the most challenging to stay hydrated. Did not seem to matter how much i drank i still always was on the edge of being de-hydrated. I am living in a climate which has higher temps and very humid but having a much easier time staying hydrated.

I think 1 year was the most common 5-6 years ago, but as they have built massive complexes everywhere in Kunming, has forced landlords to negotiate rents and payment terms. Last 2 rentals i had we paid 6 months at a time. Before that 1 year and was not a topic for discussion.

Great western dinner at a reasonable price. The salad bar is a wonderful bonus if you order a dinner meal. I like to get their early just after 5, then salad bar is especially fresh and full of all the selections. Staff are my favorite in Kunming. They are friendly and attentive, but not over bearing. Give you menu and then give you time to make a selection.
Recently i wrote a review that after eating beef burritos at Salvadors i ended up with a bad stomach ache and the last time a case of severe diarrhea. It was commented later that maybe the sour cream was a factor, and that may be true. My only dairy is milk in my coffee and i have noticed i sometimes end up with a stomach ache after drinking 2-3 cups in the morning. I make my own sour cream for tacos i make at home and will have to pay more attention to how that affects me in the future.
Metro has many things i cannot find other places, but i still find it a frustrating place to shop sometimes. Seem to frequently be out of things. For example their was very little fresh meat to choose from and actually they were out of many things and i was their just after lunch. They had no loaves of toasting bread and could not tell my wife when they would be getting more in. In looking at the fresh date on Hormel ham it had expired in September. However for first time i was able to shop all the aisles. Not filled with merchandise to be stocked or fork lifts.
To all those expecting an authentic Irish Pub come on we are after all living in China. I have eaten there several times and the burger is still the best in Kunming in my opinion. Staff is friendly and attentive to your needs. Place is not perfect but what is in CHina. Owners have been wonderful in opening up early for special events like the US Super Bowl.
Went for Pizza special tonight. Had the Barbeque chicken and it was very good. Also enjoyed an exceptionally large order of French Fries. Everything was good tonight and owners where not there.

China moves to lessen air pollution, Yunnan excluded
Posted byI ride the bus daily and all the new buses seem to be Hybrid, many of them propane fueled. What i do not understand is how Yunnan prison in the north hills behind the police academy can burn an incinerator every morning spewing out the thickest blackest foul smelling smoke i have ever seen or smelled. When the wind is in the wrong direction that smokes drifts into a housing complex that houses mostly retired and present police officers.

Posted by@Alien if you cannot stop people from driving there cars 1-2 blocks to the store to buy a carton of milk how are you going to stop people from flying. Airlines are big business and china is spending big money on new airports so i do not see airline travel slowing anytime soon. I walk, ride my bike for groceries and take bus from North to Nanya shopping mall for work, and only take car as a last resort, but i will not stop flying to USA once a year to see my family.
