Wow, just wow. Possibly the best Chinese food I have had in Kunming. And in one of the nicest, traditional courtyard style restaurant I have been in. A woman dressed in traditional qi pao playing a gu zheng just adds to it.

We had okra, mushroom soup, dried beef and chou dofu. All top notch with the bill coming in at just over 250 kuai. But we could have fed 3 people for that so not too bad at about 80-90 kuai each. Not the cheapest but for the quality, it's damn good.

If you have people visiting and want to take them to a traditional Chinese style restaurant with Yunnan style food, or want a romantic night out with a gal, you can't go wrong here. Close to Green Lake (down a little alley) for a romantic walk... Just perfect.

The main feature here is the awesome premises; the courtyard is really breathtaking, especially at night. The staff is extremely competent and attentive; when we were here the other day, one guy dropped his chopsticks, and the staff recognized the sound of it and appeared almost immediately with new ones, before we even had time to ask.

The menu is fine dining, really, and the restaurant should be added to that category. While I must say that I, as a newcomer to authentic chinese cuisine, don't feel like the right person to give a qualified review of the food here, a place that can make me appreciate a plate of fried insects does deserve recognition. The baked fish is really good, as are the vegetables and the river shrimps. The meat and the tofu, on the other hand, doesn't feel so special at all.

This is a great place to bring friends (especially newcomers to China) for an interesting restaurant experience in a nice milieu, but the food in itself is not so awesome that I would return here more than once with the same people, given the price range.

Estimate a dinner cost of 80-100 kuai per person.
