This is one of attractions well worth visiting when in the north of Kunming. The main waterfall is 400m wide with a drop difference of nearly 13m. The waterfall park is man-made and is part of the project diverting water from the Niulan River into Dianchi Lake. It is the also biggest waterfall park in Asia.
Take a walk through the water tunnel or walk along the lake. You even can walk behind the larger falls. Standing behind the water curtain, the view of the water cascade is quite impressive.
It is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, a cozy spot for everyone to relax, do sports activities and spend time with family and friends.
Took my son to the waterfall today. Nice grounds, well kept. There's a children's activity park towards the far end of the lake. As an alternative to the previously explained route, you can leave 司家营 station at Exit A and take a three-wheeled "taxi" to the Park for 10RMB. The Park itself is free and has a nice marked running track for those so inclined.
Visited the Kunming Waterfall Park yesterday and was fairly impressed-beautiful views, clean & upkept grounds, lots to see & people watch. Update from the earlier gokunming article profile: the viewing bridge and path behind the waterfall are both now open and definitely enhance the experience. Bring an umbrella unless you want to get soaked going behind the waterfall.
To get there, I took metro line 2 to 司家营 and bus #Z65 to 天宇澜山小区. The 司家营 bus stop is almost directly outside exit B.
Tip: the #Z65 bus runs in a loop to and from the waterfall park, so on the return trip you'll catch the same Z65 bus at the same stops you departed from. Make sure the return bus shows that it's headed back to 司家营 (the characters will show on the ticker outside the bus, or you can ask)；occasionally a Z65 bus will drive a different return route through residential.
