Pullman Lijiang Resort & Spa: modern and upscale in the forgotten kingdom
Pullman Lijiang Resort & Spa, which opened on April 1, 2011 in China's southwestern Yunnan Province, offers guests a modern and upscale experience in China’s “Forgotten Kingdom”.
The new resort is part of Pullman Hotel and Resorts, an upscale five-star hotel brand under the Accor Group, specifically designed for modern era international travelers.
Pullman has joined forces with real estate developer Kunming Construction Company to deliver a truly comfortable, authentic Lijiang experience. The resort, which has 79 villas and 51 deluxe rooms, is Pullman's fourth resort in the country, following two in Sanya and one in Zhangjiajie. The resort also provides the perfect stop over for guests also visiting the famous Songtsam Retreat at Shangri-La – a member of the MGallery Collection.
Tranquil Resort Setting
The tranquil resort, boasting uninterrupted and stunning views of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, is located adjacent to Shuhe Ancient Town and just minutes away from downtown Lijiang and its Dayan Ancient Town, a World Heritage listed site.
Inspired by local Naxi ethnic minority architecture and with contemporary Chinese elements perfectly blended in its interior design, the low-rise, full-service resort, set amidst gardens featuring canals and a central lake, is a destination in itself.
Each villa at Pullman Lijiang Resort & Spa, occupying a space of between 106 and 232 square meters, offers private courtyard gardens ranging from 105 to 260 square meters with outdoor hot tubs available at some deluxe villas.
Exquisite and Creative Dining
Various dining options at the resort's five restaurants and bars are designed to pamper the most discerning palates.
Xi Western Restaurant, where international buffet, semi-buffet as well as a la carte are available, offers a wide selection of cuisines using fresh local, regional and imported ingredients. At Zun Chinese Restaurant, Chow Chou cuisine and modern interpretations inspired by the local Naxi ethnic minority cuisine are served while other regional favorites can also be found.
MIST Lobby Lounge and Bar is the right place for those who seek a casual and relaxing ambience, whilst for nature admirers, the 1919 Bar, offers spectacular views of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The Tian Lu Library is set to be the first choice for culture lovers where they will get access to a selection of books and magazines over a cup of coffee or tea.
Co-Meeting and Events
Boasting five multi-functional meeting rooms and a 333-square-meter ballroom in local Naxi architectural style, the Pullman Lijiang Resort & Spa is a perfect place for conferences and events.
In addition to state-of-the-art audio and visual facilities, complimentary WiFi access and "Chill Out" space for delegates, the resort, with a dedicated team of Co-Meeting and Event managers, is on hand to provide assistance to conference and event organisers by providing tailor-made innovative breaks as well as ideas and executions for customized themed events.
Staying connected is vital to modern era travelers.
At Pullman, every room and villa is equipped with broadband internet connections while complimentary WiFi access is also available throughout the resort.
At the Connectivity Lounge (Pullman’s contemporary interpretation of the Business Center), webcam-equipped PCs, as well as other office equipment and services, are available.
Fit & Spa
Pullman Fit & Spa serves as an oasis of relaxation and rejuvenation for body and soul. A fully-equipped fitness center, open 24 hours a day, allows guests options for exercise at any time. Two international golf courses are also within easy reach, both just a short drive from Pullman Lijiang Resort & Spa.
Pullman appears to be an exception to what the hotel chain is known for. What is generally a branded as a business hotel, in Lijiang has transformed into a true international resort.
The villas are spacious, beautifully designed and as Chris mentioned in the review 6 years ago, the espresso maker is a brilliant example of the Management's attention to detail.
Make sure to book a villa that features an outside hot tub to watch the stars at night in any season – hot or cold.
A 10 minute walk will bring you to the gates of Shuhe Old Town, while Pullman is also located right in between Dayan Old Town and the now more popular Baisha. The hotel itself also supplies stunning views of Yulong Snow Mountain, which never fails to excite my senses.
Summarized, the entire experience is rather amazing. If there would be any criticism, I would recommend reconsidering prices for both spa treatments and drinks in the bar. Compared to the relatively affordable rooms and villas, they're a bit outside most people's reasonable spending budget. Otherwise, highly recommended!
This resort is a true international five-star rather than a Yunnan five-star.
Rooms are modern and extremely comfortable -- my favorite touch may have been the in-room automatic espresso maker, but the bed, bathtub and shower were also great.
Service is good and the Western restaurant Xi has one of the best buffets in Yunnan. The spa is as relaxing and invigorating as you'd expect it to be.
The location just outside of Shuhe is quite convenient, but be careful not to get lost if you go into town at night... it can be extremely difficult to find your way out of the labyrinthine after a few beers!
