The silver spoon café is an American & European style restaurant which is running by a Chinese owner who had 10 years professional culinary experience in Switzerland located in 10th Beichen Pedestrian Street, in Kunming. The Silver Spoon was the winner of Best International Restaurant” awarded by Gokunming.com in 2007. We are pride of our “Best Cheeseburgers and homemade Cheese Cake” in the town, also top quality cakes and espresso coffee, as well as wines from international renowned regions.
Very cozy cafe, staff are very friendly, they have tasty cheese cake and very traditional cheese burgers. The owner speaks very good English, I like their decoration, I find everything is still remain same since 8 years ago. Anyway, it's a good place to recommend to friends.
The food is really good, went there with 3 friends, all of us ordered different things and all of us were amazed by the food quality.
However, there is a huge problem with Silver Spoon: it's never open!
How those guys can do business? I have tried to go back there many times (I work in the area), ever the restaurant was closed (their closing day is Monday, but they are closed on Tuesday, Wednesday...) or they are open but nobody works at the kitchen so they can't do food.
You really wonder if there is someone managing this place. I feel like the staff open and/or work only when they want to.
Really impressed with this place. The only problem for me is the location, since I live downtown.
Very extensive menu and none of us (4 people) were disappointed with our orders. Decent sized portions, good flavour and nice outdoor seating area.
Will definitely go back and try other things on the menu!
I had more or less been avoiding this place due to the reviews here and the prices, but lately I've been going to silver spoon more and more and continue to be impressed. It's not the fastest service, and it's not the cheapest prices, but the diversity of the menu and quality of the food is pretty unparalleled in the area. Quesadillas, philly cheesesteaks, towering salads, I think it's the most underrated kitchen in Kunming.
The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because if the place is busy at all, food can take a while to come out because there is not enough staff.
i thought i'd give this place another try as my usual place was closed today. even though there is now more choice, i was not impressed by the menu. they do have an apparently good range of coffees for up to 80 kuai but even a basic latte is Y26 now. the drinks were OK but nothing special and certainly not worth the money. the place looked somehow cleaner too and was certainly busier! why have so many of the cafes in this area decided that it's fine to raise their prices by so much (in some cases almost double)? i doubt i'll be going back. the 2 stars are because it was just OK and they've obviously made some effort.
