@blue - why Yankees? Many people of various nationalitities read the gokunming website and none of them commented on Zhongdian..., so I'm a bit confused on why you're singling Yankees out. Related note... sometimes people talk about things *gasp* in person, so a lack of forum posts on the issue doesn't mean we actually aren't concerned or heartbroken.
Related note: there are tons of awful/possibly toxic food in Kunming (chinese and western), so what does it matter if someone wants to go to BK.
talking about fast food is a more sensitive topic than religion and politics combined.
You know what they call a quarter pounder in France?
Royale with Cheese
"They got the metric system there, they wouldn't know what the f**k a Quarter Pounder is"

I for one appreciate Ocean getting this information out there and I will be hoping it is true and would love get my fingers on a real live Whopper, though it would not be my first time since coming to China.
As for the horrors of junk food I still am amazed at how McDonald's and KFC and Burger King (which are all junk food establishments) get such a beating still here in China. Chinese people love junk food, and I do not mean the imported kind only. My students live on greasy, slimy potatoes either cut like fries or some other fashion. They are cooked up in oil that would make the grease at McDonald's seem like all natural health food. To go along with those oily MSG laden fries they love to chump down a 1/4 pound of oily chicken feet or BBQ beef tendon on a skewer. So if every lao wai in China suddenly decided to never eat at any of those places again it would not even dent the businesses since it is the local people who keep them booming. So what is the difference in eating an order of fries at McDonalds or BK's or ordering up a paper bowl's worth of three times the size and scarfing them down? None. At least these places back in the US have some attempts at salads. They discard that from the menus here because there is no interest in salads at fast food places here. Including the poor substitute Dico's and its ilk.
So if want salad. Get one. If you want rice noodles. Go for it. And if you want a Whooper or Big Mac then dig in. A person is not elevated to the status of a demi-god simply because they do not like bacon burgers.
I would also like to see a Subway here (and please local people, do not start on about how the new "subway" will be opening soon!) Even though the portions are typically smaller than back in the States I love their sandwiches. BTW, I am eating dofu fried rice right now in case somebody feels I should eat only Chinese food since I am in China. I just need a break and it it to have have it my way. Soon.
mPRin,
In the U.S., I've only had Carl Jr. in California, but I know it exists elsewhere. It is certainly one of the most unhealthy food experiences you'll have. (I think the only thing I've had that is consistently richer has been fois gras.) I saw a Subway in Shenzhen, but it didn't look too appetizing. Back in the U.S., most of the sandwiches I eat at Subway have turkey. I did make the mistake of eating at Subway a couple months back, when I was in Mumbai. I love paneer, but their Spicy Paneer Patty was one of the most yucky things I've ever eaten.
I do wish that Taco Bell existed in China.
@Dude - When it comes to "netiquette", you are clueless. :)
@shyam
....ah and we are back at preschool level so lets indulge: you started attacking guys for being off topic. which they weren't in fact, considering all the other post. if you don't know what that means, it's all content that is not contributing to the OP. like your last post...and the one before that and the one before that etc.
... now we learn that wisdom lies not in fast food consumption as your case proves. :)
to all other posters

@dazzer
nah not really. i think i.will rest my case here.
don.t wanna deal with this kinda juvenile stuff.
i.m not wasting my time excusing myself for posting health stuff in a fast food forum.
i wish people could just shut up if they don.t have anything intelligent to say. (not directed at you)
...and before the preschool stuff continues....'yes like me'!
