Things to do besides going to bars?

Plenty of things to do. First, you may be interested in trying our capoeira classes. Second, you may join us for reading, meditation sessions. I've also put my free time into learning a new language, which is Portuguese. I will probably switch to Spanish next year. :) As far as I know, there are movie nights held weekly in plenty of places, if you like to go out. A good, but a bit pricey yoga studio in the downtown, called Yu Tao yoga. Jiu-jitsu club where many of my friends train. A couple of climbing gyms. Decide yourself. :)

Lots of suggestions, thanks everyone.

HFCAMPO, I actually agree with you that boredom is an absurd state of mind, despite mistakenly using the word in my first post. But now I have a list of new and interesting things to try in Kunming, which was what I was hoping for when making this topic.

Just for the record, there's vast chasm between being bored and wanting something different to do. I'm on the latter extreme. I am fully occupied for 45-60 hours a week on business. I travel a lot, take Chinese lessons, explore the city, cook, exercise, etc.. I like to socialize, but I really hate to be around smoking, excessively loud music, and rude people. Many of the great ideas people have here would be a nice refuge from those nasty things.

By the way, does anyone if there are group classes for French or German around Kunming?

@ Shyam, yes and no. Making your place smoke-free is like trying to make Chinese doctors stop smoking.
However, our bar (Napa Valley) is quiet as we're outside the 2nd ring. Plus a lot of our guests like wine and therefor don't smoke. None of our staff and management smokes.
We have private rooms upstairs with their own ventilation which don't smell of smoke. We also have outdoor lakeside tables which are nice when it's a little warmer.
On a scale of 0-10 (worst), I'd say we're at 1 ^_^

PS: we have high-speed wifi (free) and I speak German too.
There is a German guy active with some classes and fun activities teaching German. His name is Rolf. Don't know if he reads this. I can PM you his phone-number or We-Chat. There is a post about "German meetings" on here.

Thanks Silvio! I think I'll explore your establishment after I get back from my next round of travel. Also, thanks for the tip on the German lessons!

Hey Shyam,

You're welcome :)
We have real western food for very reasonable prices and wines by the glass.
Don't know when you'll be back but our 99 yuan p/p Christmas and New Year menu goes on till January 1st.
Good luck on your travels :)
