This isn't just for Kunming only but stuff in Kunming is great too. What are some things you think everyone who travels China should try to do? Things to see, stuff to learn, etc. :) any ideas and opinions would be awesome. every online search is just for sites like great wall and obvious things and i want to make a list to try and accomplish while im still living here.
not try to see the whole country at once. IMHO it's a mistake to attempt to treat China or any such huge country as a whole. I'd see one province at a time, and you still need months and months for that.
IMHO China isn't so much a country where there is plenty to visit or see, most of it is donned up to be a huge tourist magnet with matching prices. If you come to China, my advice is to stay somewhere for a while at a time and treat everything around you as a sight or point of interest. Been here for two years and it still feels like a holiday.

Since you are in Yunnan, it would be a shame not to see Tiger Leaping Gorge. Jiuzhaigou in Sichuan is also a world class nature spot, if you can separate yourself from the hordes of tourists. Xian and Qingdao are cities worth a visit while Sanya is overrated.
I have grown up here and will most likely be here for another 2 + years and i have been or done very few things here due to not liking to travel as a kid. now wondering what everyone who has travelled around has enjoyed doing or thinks everyone should try to do. :) any ideas are great!

Travelling as a kid is your parents' agenda, which can be like a mobile prison. Being forced to go where you don't wanna go, and do what you don't wanna do.
Whatever your parents did, do something else. If they had an itinerary to visit 6 cities in 5 days, then just have list of places you might go. If you just get as far as the first city, then decide to sit by a river, read a book and drink beer for a week, then enjoy it.
You can visit lots of places, and SEE a few things (5 minutes at a temple gate for a photo, 2 minutes somewhere else for another photo, etc.).
Alternatively, you can visit fewer places, stay for a longer period of time and experience more of the local culture, and get time to see the parts that most tourists won't see.
you don't need to do anything.

haha @tigertiger that's why i didn't like travelling. This will be my first year without parents so would love to do some travelling. tourist stuff like great wall is definitely on the list but also looking for fun stuff like "eat jiao zi" etc. :)
