I am leaving Beijing soon and heading to Kunming for the first time, and I will find a place to rent once I arrive there.
Yesterday, it was raining heavily here for 20 minutes and a quarter of the Lido area was flooded.
In Kunming I'd rather rent in a slightly elevated area of the city that isn't prone to floods. Which areas would be more convenient (preferably with newer apartments)?
Kunming has many problems, but flooding is not one of them.
If you really want to play it safe, take a flat above third floor and keep a canoe at hand.
The only flooding I've seen was in Chenggong old town and that was 2 years ago.
Streets can flood for a short time if the rain is very heavy. I was wading across JianSheLu a couple of months ago during a thunderstorm, and LongXiangJie is prone to a foot of water during a downpour. But it usually all clears within a day.
thanks. This kind of information is good to know
@ludwig, could you please elaborate on the many problems in Kunming?
