@ pcpgapt. I like your fairytale - brings it to the point. However, you forgot to mention that in most fairytales there is someone else playing a big role: It is ususlly a wizard that makes sure that the King only gets the news that the King likes to hear about what is going on in his land. This wizard is very powerful. He wants ot stay out of the public but everybody knows he is the one pulling the strings. The Schoolmaster is his puppet and got his position thanks to his relationship to the Wizard.

It puzzles me why some people would argue with those on here who were informed first hand about the price hike by Dong Fang. No one is here to slander anyone . However, this scam TOOK PLACE the minute the students were INFORMED of the price hike.I myself am one of the many who were informed about the price hike. Teacher Yuan Tong Si from Northside DF CALLED me up and told me about the "new price" that will be introduced in September. I was told to register before 1st Sep if I want to pay tuition fees at the old price. Whether Dong Fang was trying to get their students register and pay up during semester break( to ensure they return to DF for next sem) or whether they were trying to rip RMB4000 more off their student, it is a disgusting act. It is a CRIME.
THEREFORE, as foreigners, we shouldn't keep quiet.Otherwise these pig heads would always find ways to take advantage of foreigners. Even if there is only ONE person who was told about the price hike, the crime has already taken place. Number does not matter, but the act does.
So far, we have witness /proof that the principal and teacher Yuan Tong Si has conveyed this price hike to the students. I think they should be punished. Lets try to push for some actions to be taken against them. I am sure there is a law to punish those who tries to cheat $$$. MOREOVER, they used the GOVERNMENT's name. That itself would put them in hot soup. I hope the government is informed not only about this scam but the abuse of the government's name too...

This issue is pretty much over. Dong Fang has announced they have no plans for an increase. I am satisfied.

Time to let it go. The only one that could be punished are people that were doing what they were told to do. There can be no satisfaction in getting some low level person fired.

What happened, has happened. Revenge ain't gonna happen. Only the student market can bring justice by voting with it's money.

A principal, a principal's assistant( both involved) aint a low level person....
Something must be wrong with the hierarchy if they are considered as low level person

@Geezer
Agreed. The message has been received loud and clear. Time to move on but let this be a lesson to other schools that try to take advantage of a foreigner(s).

It is simply outrageous, and regrettable that some language schools falsely used government's name, (hence illegal business move) to try to deceive foreigners (hence hurting their potential, current, and former students' trust, and damaging their own reputation in Kunming, even, who knows might be in China.)

One thing conspicuously regrettable is that the shame would fall not only on those culprits responsible, but might also have been on those innocent parties, like their own teachers who may not be directly involved in decision making process.

I would suggest a hard, painful, yet simply quickest way of gaining trust back for those schools: to openly admit their mistakes (if you cant do that, at least keep quiet and turn your face down in shame instead of persistent continuous denial), apologize publicly, and change their wrong ways of doing business. And yes, dear schools, schools are NOT All Only about business. There are so many aspects in a language school such as curriculum, teaching methodology, teachers' quality, students' trust, long time built up reputation, etc., which are simply inseparable from, and closely knitted with your business aspect.

Dear schools, in my humble opinion, after your having trodden wrong paths, from now on there is still chance for you to walk the right, much better way. IMHO, it is better firstly for you to focus on delivering highest quality of education possible in Kunming (or why not even in China?) to all your students, instead of focusing on your business gain. You even would do better to invest your money in achieving that aim even though it will cost you more, i.e. that at the beginning you can only gain marginal profits. When you think you have achieved that performance of highest quality of education possible, then you may consider to boldly, and honestly tell your students long in advance that you will increase the fee since you can deliver high quality of education. Your confidence in your high quality performance hopefully will significantly replace your fear of losing students, or other fears of decreasing business prospects. Your worth and gain will surely increase along with your quality service. For you schools, anyone or any students who read this posting, this train of thought would be hopefully pretty fair, and reasonable enough to follow. :-)

it seems to me that most Chinese people involved in business just don't get the value of word of mouth, and treating your customers right. ESPECIALLY if you want to attract foreigners. Cheat me, and I go somewhere else. It's that simple. Everyone speaks poorly of your service, and I go somewhere else. That's why businesses are here today and gone in a few months. So, even if dong fang, or any of the schools that replied to me that "the government" is forcing them to raise prices decide to not raise fees, I will still go elsewhere. KEATS and "yunnan mandarin chinese school" are the only ones i've found that never planned to increase the price.
