So I went to apply for RP renewal today.

Last year when I applied for my 1 year residence permit, the officer asked if I want 1 year or 2 year permit. He said 2 year would require the medical, and we were in hurry so took the 1 year.

This year we prepared for the 2 year permit by doing the medical check, but now they looked at my wife's papers and as she does not have Kunming hukou (only 1 year temporary ID), they no longer offered the 2 year permit at all.

So we took the 1 year permit again.

I assumed marking "Renew" in the application form would be right, but they changed it to "Family reunion".

Delivery time is 15 work days.

i wonder if not offereing the 2 year anymore is another kunming only interpretation

I believe it was solely because my wife does not have more than 1 year residence permit. If she had Kunming hukou, it would not be a problem to apply for 2 year permit.

my wife has temp id and i got 2 years last time about a year ago but kunming is always movin the goal posts.

Oh, then they must have changed the policy. Makes sense though, in my opinion.

Two quick questions regarding this issue:

- I recently lost my passport, with the resident permit in it and now I am back in France. To come back to China and then apply for a resident permit, should I apply for a Q1 visa or just a tourist visa is ok?

- My wife's Hukou is from Kunming and we got married in Kunming but she wants to move to Shenzhen for her job. Do I still need to apply for the resident permit in Kunming or will I be able to do it in Shenzhen?

I believe, that if you wait for your wife to move to Shenzhen and acquire the temporary ID there, should be no problem for you to get residence permit in Shenzhen as well.

Can someone tell me how to apply this one year PR from Kunming. I am trying to open up a business and this sounds good.

The discussion above only applies to persons who are married to Chinese national, and live in China on residence permit based on "family reunion".

If you are not married to Chinese, the relevant policies are (very) different.
